not sure if you have had a go at cleaning it up
have tried wire wool after a light sandpaper and a cost of white paint , spray is fine or maybe a chalk pen and then wipe the excess off . doesn't work every time but can pull old numbers up. |

Road chalk is usually quite good at bringing out numbers on engines and other bits. Just rub it over the area where you think a stamped or raised number should be.
It’s just wax so it shouldn’t cause any issues and will just disappear after a while. |

It may have been ground off. Reconditioned boxes can be de-serial numbered.
