[For Sale] Demand Engineering Exhaust - 300tdi mid section
This might be of interest to anyone whose thinking of buying an exhaust from Demand Engineering for their 300tdi 110.
I’m changing the 2.5 inch mid section of mine from their sports silencer version to their larger (and slightly quieter) silencer version. Anyone whose has seen the Demand stuff knows what a excellent quality product it. I fitted it last August and have done no more than 1300 miles since , hence it’s in really good condition so I’m looking for £160 plus postage, I think they go for £276 plus postage on their website

I'd be interested to hear why you're changing - presumably just noise levels?

Was it fitted with rear silencer and still to loud or just centre sports box and nothing at the rear?

I'm trying to decide what to order for mine and am currently wrestling with what would be the best option.

It's for a long distance tourer so don't want anything too loud but at the same time don't want it to be too restrictive.

Cheers,
Martin. 1996 300Tdi Defender 110

Originally it was fitted on its own, and while it sounded well it was to loud for my middle aged ears! I found it too much on longer journeys hence went for there bigger silencer which is ideal - sounds good but at half the volume.

This thread is great timing - I am having exactly the same dilemma.

I have maxed out the soundproofing on my truck and got it about as quiet as is possible. I plan to upgrade to the Alive GTB450 turbo which will work well with a decat Demand exhaust.

But I don't know if this will be a big setback on noise... I am thinking about the decat 2.5" downpipe, large centre section and standard rear.

Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated! TD5 hardtop to Puma inspired Poptop - my build thread

I have tried several options on my TD5 Hard Top 90:

No cat downpipe on mine, straight through pipe, standard rear... too loud...

Alive cherry bomb... still too 'boomey' inside... but nice outside exhaust note.

Demand sports centre section... better than both previous options, but still too much boom/resonance inside for me. This is now in the shed, and available for sale, if I can get around to listing it...

Now back to standard centre box... saving up for Demand version.

The straight through options did help with performance, slightly quicker to pick up... but I'm no boy racer! As others have done, I've soundproofed everything, and a boomey exhaust seemed to reverse all that effort, and made long journeys just that bit more tiring.

This may be a thing with the Hard Top... Station Wagons may have better sound absorbtion... less body resonance with side windows etc...?
