Cam notch and flywheel not aligning

I bought a nice shiny AMC head and went to fit it today. This TD5 is a new to me vehicle and it looks like someone did the head before.

However, when I went to set it to TDC it appears the cam notch and flywheel are out a tooth.

I can't screw the flywhheel tool in when the cam tool is in and vise versa. I'm assuming this must be from whoever did the head the last time.

What's the right way to fix this? I'm thinking lock the flywheel, loosing the chain and rotate the cam back a fraction.

Does this sound right?

As above. Somehow a tooth out, how did that happen

Make sure the chain guides and hydraulic tensioner are is good condition.

I fitted the AMC head on to Miffy the summer before last. Excellent quality

I've no idea how it happened. But there was a few signs of bad work from whoever did the job before.

Excited to fit the AMC and have it done for good hopefully.

Just to be sure, I should lock the flywheel in the slot and not the little dents, is this correct?
