Apple Car Play question

l've found that if l've not locked my Defender Commercial, maybe l am getting tools out of the back or something, and my phone rings, it connects to the in-car system so l can't hear the caller.

lt can happen when you're quite a distance from the vehicle. There are occasions when it might not be locked and l wondered if there was a way to make the phone disconnect from the vehicle when l shut it down and get out.

Obviously l always have the keys with me but the phone still connects to the vehicle if it's not locked.

One of the quickest ways is simply to turn off bluetooth on your phone using the control center (the screen you get when you swipe down from the upper right hand corner of the screen). It's a PITA, but it was the same prior to Car Play with a bluetooth connection to the infotainment/bluetooth headset/etc. It's a bigger PITA if you're using bluetooth for another device external to the car such as a speaker.

I actually googled this some time ago because I had exactly the same problem with my Range Rover without Car Play. I found an article that described turning Car Play on and off quickly by using the "Allowed Apps" function in the "Screen Time" settings and for a minute, I was jealous of everyone who already had Car Play - 'till I tried it. It's like 5 steps through the settings menu and almost takes longer than disconnecting and reconnecting the phone from the infotainment system. But if Apple allowed us to make shortcuts and import them to the control center...

What I do is open and close the front door as soon as I've switched the engine off. Even if I then open a door the phone will still ring in the car but will route the call through the handset. If yours isn't doing that then the only other option is to press the speaker button on the phone screen as it is ringing and select iPhone from the choices which routes the call through the phone. That's the easiest way, as long as you can hear the in-car ringing.
