So... back in July 2022 I had a shock break, the threaded rod brod leaving the shock absorber dangling... so I got a new pair of shock and got them fitted.

Was a right pain in the arse. The bushes were too thick to use as the threaded part was too short...

Anyway I got them done after shaving off some of the bush lol.

England 2004 Defender 110 Td5 XS CSW Java Black
Well, today (15.2.23) it's been an eventful day...

A couple of weeks or so ago, I had my colleagues at work say they found a lump of metal where I park... after checking, I found it to be the top part of the rear spring...

So I headed to my local specialist Oak Tree Garage in Kimpton near Hitchin... after some chats, we decided a new set of springs were needed. I also asked about a knocking noise that recently started... turns out it's my front double cardon prop shaft πŸ™„πŸ˜«πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ so ill need to buy another one of them too...

So I rang Glyn Lewis in Wales for some help getting the right springs and a prop shaft. I went for their MEGA EXTREME double cardon prop, it's fully serviceable, so was the best bet, even though it was 3-4x the cost of a normal one. And It turned out that because I have a lift kit from the old brand Scorpion, it won't be that easy to just get springs... after some tooing and throwing, we decided the best bet was to go for a standard set of 110 springs. So I went on to LRPARTS.COM. and ordered me a set of terrafirma rear springs....

Anyway, a short while later and the parts are delivered and I head to the garage to change the parts over...

The new MEGA EXTREME prop from Gwyn Lewis went on a treat and just at the right time too, the old one was disintegrating.. and about to fail.

There was huge amounts of play and some parts of the UJ'S were disintegrating.

Here shows the amount of play - maybe 5mm of movement.

How hot was it getting to colour the metal like that!!!

Here shows where it started to disintegrate...

Here is a side by side of the two... check the size of the BEAST! Very heavy and should be able to handle my heavy right foot...

Sadly the new springs I purchased are the wrong diameter, so need to be returned. It turns out that the previous owner has fitted defender 90 springs...πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ
I've already ordered the right ones, so will get them fitted when they arrive...

So in the meantime Oak Tree Garage in Kimpton lent me a pair of springs to be going on with.

The size of my new prop though... BEAST! πŸ˜πŸ‘ŒπŸ» Regards

Ouch you've had some unfortunate events.. but those shiny parts look great!

I remember considering the Glyn Lewis props on a prior Landy a number of years ago, but it would have been overkill for the use. Does look very nice I must admit Thumbs Up

You can’t fit 90 rear springs to a 110, unless someone has changed the spring seats on the chassis? They are a different diameter.

Or do you mean wrong in terms of spring rate?

Yup. They fitted a scorpion suspension kit. Which has springs from a 90... πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ

In the photos above shows grey 110 springs next to the current spring. So yeah they changed it all... Regards

Ah, it's lasted well. Just glad I caught it in time. She is my daily driver...
Just so glad to have her back on the road.
Arrived to work this morning with a big smile on my face ☺️

The spring seats are welded to the chassis - did they change those to fit the narrower 90 springs?

It would be a very odd thing to do.

I know you have the Pin Pin Rear Shock Absorbers but I noticed the bottom has a washer either side of the bushes. Mine only have 2 per side top and bottom, should there be 4 or is that provided by the cups on the axle? Craig.

And fitting 90 springs to the rear would explain the droopy rear end of the 110 as well...

The springs on it now, we're leant to me by the garage, they are an inch + shorter than the standard springs as you can see in the picture below.

When I get my new springs fitted, the stance will be back to normal.πŸ‘ŒπŸ» Regards
