I saw over on another forum a curious question on why the loadspace partition net toggles are design the way they are - with a wierd looking add-on that seems unneccessary.
How they are supposed to work together with the weird holes in the C-pillars.. Powerfuluk didn't seem to find an answer: https://youtu.be/OzFWYVlLfWk My suggestion is that perhaps the little square shape is supposed to be used to help locate and insert the main toggle into the hole at the start of fitting. And not to be used as a locking mechanism at the end of the process...

Ah, so the square bits fits into the slot?
Does it depend on the orientation? It looks like Simon followed the instructions with the LR logo facing backwards, but I wonder if perhaps the toggles are reversed and should fit in the other direction.. Do you have a photo? |

rather than fit the Genuine net, I used these ......

I have this accessory and did not manage to get the square bit to fit inside. Not pretty, but it was not an issue for me. The tension of the straps keeps it in place. 22MY Defender 110 D300 S in Pangea Green and Contrast White Roof

Figured I'd have a blast at a DIY solution from ebay:
£5 for some 70mm x 35mm plastic end caps - design to locate inside tubes like table legs or similar. I just wanted a tidy plastic plate, so I cut off the male section. https://www.ebay.com/itm/144886635285 £9 for some M6 lifting eye bolts. I could have gone cheaper with some lifting eye nuts instead £2-3 but thought it might be fiddly to find the perfect bolt length.I wasn't sure about sizing of washers to hold the nuts inside the roof fitting, so I found some square steel fixing washers, but it turned out I didn't need them at all. The bolt itself did the job perfectly on its own. https://www.ebay.com/itm/223563736536 £35 for a clone net which is similar to the LR in size & looks. Velcro straps into the lower tie-down d-rings. In theory, this net also has a long upper velcro strap that you loop between the safari window glass and the plastic. It was very fiddly and not something I could repeat easily. Hence this quick release approach. https://www.ebay.com/itm/234703266106 I drilled a couple of holes in the plastic plates and it turned out ok. The plastic was a bit soft and deformed a little, but not too noticeable and the fitting is secure. I had planned to use bungees but found these carabiners which were the perfect size and less fiddly. Downside: the hinged flaps which usually hide the holes in the roof structure were not easy to remove and I ended up snapping the small plastic locating pins. (annoying but not the end of the world) Use extreme caution (and not brute force) if you plan to remove these flaps. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |
