MPG
Just driven my TD5 130 back to the UK and it returned 24.5 mpg, I had no idea what to expect, especially as it’s a converted camper so even empty of all our camper gear it weighs 450ish kg more than a standard double cab 130.

Is this about where it should be?

I got 28 mpg on a pretty brisk motorway journey last week, 110 SW.

Ok so apparently the combined for the 130 is 26.5 so I think with the weight mine is, 24.5 isn’t too bad. Normally I don’t give a monkeys about mpg but with a big trip in the near future it’s more important than it previously had been.

I get close t0 30mpg on a long run. I have changed the transfer box to the 1.22 (Discovery) ratios which lowers the revs by approx 15% for the same speed and really helps on motorway journeys. TD5 hardtop to Puma inspired Poptop - my build thread

My 110 TD5 does around 28 mpg as long as you don’t go over 60mph! Over 60 I only get around 23 mpg!

Can I assume correctly that you are all using the 4.5 litre gallon and not the US 3.785 litre gallon? 2006 90 originally registered in Italy

Actually the UK is metric so I don't know what they are talking about. The Imperial Gallon is only legal tender in a few Caribbean islands.

My handbook says a 110 (and 130) have a combined cycle consumption of 10.8 l/100km.

The UK is nominally metric but there are still plenty of anachronisms and miles per gallon is one of them. Even better are those that mix systems: 8 x 4 sheet of ply that's 12mm thick, anyone? Everybody knows what you mean, though Laughing Darren

totally standard TD5 110, ive done the injector loom and cleaned the harness and ECU a few times, still have all the emissions control EGR etc in place.

My record is about 37 mpg on a good combined run to Mull from Edinburgh, max speed 60 mph on the motorway to Stirling then 50 from Stirling to Oban and a max of about 40 for most of the time on Mull. We did about 600 miles to that tank which was a to and from + a full week of driving on Mull.

I average about 550 miles to a tank usually as at some point theres a tonne of crap in the back or its pulling 3 tonnes of horse and trailer behind it.

Between 29 30mpg including lots of local trips in winter. Summer 30 to 35mpg with longer trips away for holidays, this is a 90 though.

Whenever MPG is discussed somebody always comes along and says something along similar lines - "I just fill it and drive it", "if you're worried about MPG then buy a Fiesta", etc. In reality though, knowing your MPG is about more than just being frugal. Knowing what it typically is means that unexpected variations can be a good indication that something isn't working properly. Darren
