Early 2.2tdci - potential purchase
I have found an early 2.2tdci with only 35k miles. Here are some pics of the underneath.

What’s your advice … please.

Rear member is absolutely fine.

Leave it wherever you found it and look for another one, that is a shocking amount of rust for a 35k miles vehicle. Did it leave near the sea?

The PAS isn't going to work for long before all the pipes and hoses need replacing, and the sump pan isn't going to hold oil much longer either.

I suggest that you walk away unless it is astonishingly cheap.

rust
i have a 2015 2.2

depends on the cost and work you want to put in? , as blackwolf says its pretty rusty?

if its cheap enough i dare say it could be treated but i would think you would need to spend a bit and a put lot of time to get that to standard so it didn't degrade any further

Blimey…that is extremely rusty.

I’ve seen 10-15 year old Land Rovers with over 100000 miles on in way better condition than that.
I wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole.
If that’s what you can see..imagine what you cannot.????

That has been used either very close to the sea or even possibly for boat launching.
It’s grim and unknown issues lie ahead

Clemmo Thumbs Up Make today a little better than yesterday but not so good as tomorrow....
Defender 90 HT............Pangea Green
BMW X3 Msport............Carbon Black
Mini Electric................Grey. (wow!)
MGB Roadster……..........Vermillion 17k miles
Honda Benly CD200....Maroon --------McLouis Fusio........7.4m of fun

I guess it’s been used on salted roads with no underneath protection ….you could put the registration plate number into the DVLA mot online history check and see what it says!

I think I know that car. If its the one I think, it was used by a school for boat launching for most of its early life

For the first 6 or 7 years it was an “SHB 4x4” (off road hire company)

Maybe not the one I thought then. BTW, SHB are part of Enterprise Rent A Car and still have some late Defenders on fleet. Most of their disposals go as salvage now. There is a 16 Plate 130 going for auction next week
