Lots of Oztent love - which is good;getting real world experience. Are you all storing it straight onto a roof rack, or into the specific basket?
Anyone tried the ARB Awning room??
My RV5 goes straight onto four Flatdog roof bars. Each bar has 2 lashing eyes the right width for the tent to sit between and I use a cam lock strap on each bar hooked to the eyes to hold it down. It less than 5 mins to get it on and strapped down.
I have an ARB awning room. We used it as our tent on our first trip to Morocco. Its ok, not too bad to put up and down, but I wouldn't want to sleep in it in bad weather. The ceiling of the room could potentially gather water if it's raining and windy. Also it'd probably flap about a lot in a strong wind. The Oztent isn't great in strong wind either, flaps a lot. Ear plugs are the answer!
The trick with Oztent camping, if you are setting up and putting away every day, is to be keep it simple and not get loads of stuff out like extension rooms and extra walls etc. As soon as you do that you've cancelled out the tents USP. Just put the tent up and chuck your bed in, then it's very fast and not a pain. Save everything else for when you've got a few days at camp. Use an awning on the vehicle if you need extra shelter. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS
