The door switch is used for the factory alarm and the light. If it doesn't work the light it probably also won't trigger the alarm.
The standard switch has one wire which is grounded through the switch when the door is open. The ground connection is made through the screw which retains the switch and the most common reason for non-operation is rust developing where the self-tapper has chomped the paint. It's easy to remove the switch and clean everything up. |

Yes light should come on with the door switch (does in my 1994 300tdi).
If you have the same door switch it is like a rubber cap that presses on a copper spring which breaks the contact to earth the light circuit. These get gunked up and corroded so get stuck and can't move to make the circuit when the door is opened. These can be cleaned up or might need replacing. The spring has to be free to move. |

Thanks guys! After a bit of digging around yesterday I found that my alarm already had a spider bypass connector fitted. So I'm unsure if this is why the light does not work anymore but I will be checking that switch and taking it apart. Thanks again! 👍🏻

Hi EVERYONE ! S its my first post, I'm struggling with my interior lights. the lights switch on but once the
light (mudd led ones)are switched to door more ie when the door opens they need to go on i get no action. The light just has a soft glow.....Is this a led issue or some kind of earth issue? I'm in the process of taking my dash out to follow wires but where does this go ? I don't have the land rover alarm fitted its a 3rd party alarm. Last question where does the wire in the door actually come out ? perhaps I can run new wires .... any help appreciated I cant for the life of me find a auto electrician near weymouth who can tackle this |

Hi. Mine played up. Interior lights wouldn't come on when unlocked with the remote alarm. Would switch on when manually activated. Turned out to be a corroded earth on the rear door switch. To fix I took off each door switch, cleaned the connections with emery cloth, bit of copper grease, refitted. Interior lights have worked as expected since. 2009 Defender 90 CSW 2.4 TDCI.
