England 2010 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Galway Green
Sorry for resurecting this thread, I am currently on the hunt for a 110 CSW to replace my 2013 Toyota hilux. I decided on a 110 as its a passenger car and therefore (should be) exempt from the new upcoming clean air zone coming into effect in Sheffield next month

I spotted a couple of suitable puma 2.2 CSWs on the net but when I checked on the GOV website they come back as 110 D/C utility(van) and therefore liable for the £10 per day charge Banging Head

I then put in the reg from my mates 2005 TD5 CSW and that comes back as exempt Rolling with laughter

Guess another option for me would be to fit my old hilux with a 4uz V8. The 10mpg petrol hilux would be exempt in the clean air zone whereas the 30mpg puma wouldn't Rolling Eyes

Or another idea would be to take my 1970 Series 2a diesel as that is exempt for the charge (but then again the cameras probably wouldnt be able to read the reg through the cloud of smoke Rolling with laughter )

You really can't make this sh*t up can you Banging Head 2000 90 TD5,galv chassis, d2 axles ,Bas remap , alisport intercooler , d2 transfer box , side windows-more to come-much more!! *GONE*

It’s because land rover had all the later pumas classed as commercials to get around the higher rate of tax, they are all N1 regardless if it’s a CSW or Van.

You need to find one that’s M1 from the earlier ones or a TD5

It really wasn't to get them into a lower tax class, it was to avoid having to make the safety modifications that would have been necessary to maintain an EWVTA M1 type approval. The reduced tax was a lucky benefit.

The difference in tax pays for an awful lot of days in Bath for those fortunate enough not to live or work there.

Talking of which check out their trust pilot reviews, between one and two and a half stars of 5.

If that was a business, it wouldn’t even exist on anything less than 3 stars review rating.

Says it all really - the routes around it are a much more enjoyable and cheaper routes anyway. Laughing

In effect, only costs around £3 - £5 perhaps if that to go around these zone things anyway so no loss.

Trouble is my missus works as a critical care nurse at Sheffield children's hospital which is inside the clean air zone, so it's either I take her into work and (at the moment) pay the £10 per day CA charge or she drives in using her euro 6 charge exempt alfa romeo and pays £18 per shift for parking (obviously this isn't an option during any snow we get)

Looks like I'm in the market for a Td5 or pre 2010 puma Station wagon 2000 90 TD5,galv chassis, d2 axles ,Bas remap , alisport intercooler , d2 transfer box , side windows-more to come-much more!! *GONE*

Free entry into a clean air zone in a Euro 4 diesel, that'll soften the blow of the £630 VED cost on my 110 SW next time I'm back in Yorkshire. Eighteen quid a day to park in Sheffield though, now that's a ridiculous charge. Keep it simple - poverty spec.

yep i like the bit where they say we wont charge private cars and then charge cars , land rovers and campervans all in private ownership.

no one knows where they money they get is going to be spent.....

It's to do with NOX, CO2, particulates and the quality of the air that comes out. An old big 2005 D3 V8 is cleaner from that point of view than many pre 2015 diesels.

The world is changing, more people work from home, councils want greater use of public transport (note the restrictions of parking spaces on new builds) and people want cleaner air.

In many cases people don't need a big car. I don't need my Defender but I like it therefore I pay a penalty for having it.

Sadly the world isn't fair and ULEZ are here to stay because whichever party you vote for won't change a thing.

Just look at London, they have already calculated when revenue from ULEZ fines will drop and they have a team working on a Pay By Mile money maker.

Force people out of a car that they either own or can afford, then force them into debit for a car they cant afford and will never own once in the PCP trap and then clobber them for more money after letting them believe that they are doing some good.

Sherman tankers the lot of them.

An early 1.0 PETROL does not emit or use more fuel / emissions than the latest V8 monster......
The whole shoite show is simply an attack on those who can ill afford any debt or more bills, even "normal' people will struggle as will many business's

Personally I have no interest in being in debt for some modern (mostly unreliable) piece of metal!!
