Yes, this is a Defender quirk. It does not always happen, but from time to time it will. Last week Miffy's rear door lock wouldn't centrally unlock, today it does...
I have found that every now and again it is worth applying a drop of light oil (not WD40) to the linkages inside the doors. Admittedly it has been a few years since doing it on Miffy and perhaps that is why they have started to misbehave. The other thing I have noticed is that in cold weather the locks misbehave if the battery is a little low or cold. Then it is out with the key to get in. Whilst you are doing this job it is worth applying a smear of vaseline or silicone spray over the door seals as well. Helps prevent the doors freezing to them |

My Td5 does this too, I find that if the lock tabs do not go fully up to unlock the system relocks itself immediately. The work around is to be quick enough on at least one door handle to get it open before the vehicle locks itself and then manually help the stiff lock tab into the unlocked position.
Got to love a Defender in cold weather... |

Worth bearing in mind that only the drivers door mechanism can cause this issue. None of the other doors have any feedback to the alarm unit for it to know it hasnt fully unlocked.

Mine was doing something similar today and on investigation the bit of the door 'button' that fixes to the door frame (EJS000011PMA) had snapped, so the button was jamming - not the first time this has happened, cheep plastic part and probably doesn't like being cold and brittle.
Bodged for now and new bits ordered. Yesterday all the external door buttons were frozen up till I warmed them with the kettle. I need a nice heated garage TBH. |

Thanks Jimmy
Nothing broken on mine just frozen. I seem to have a relatively new and somewhat rare model called the “ DEFENDER WUSS “ loves being outside but doesn’t like the cold weather ! |
