Bodywork?
Hi all

Looked at a TD5 which was in reasonable nick apart from some bubbling around the front screen.

Is this just a case of rubbing down and respray or a bigger problem?

Thanks

Jim

The windscreen frame is aluminium so it is a case of rubbing down and re-painting. Best to take the screen out first and a good time to replace a cracked windscreen seal or upgrade to heated screen Wink

The bulkhead may be a different matter. Pay close attention to it and check for rust.

TBH, they all do that, as well as spidering around various rivets on the roof and the cappings on the rear around the door. I’ll be brave and say by now, if you find any Defender built up until 2016 which hasn’t got some corrosion under the paint, the previous owner has already repainted the affected area or it’s been wrapped in cotton wool.

Landrover repainted mine under warranty, and two years later it was back.

Not a big issue (yet) - just needs a rub down, prime and repaint. The screen surround often gets chipped by grit and road rash debris ( I think even big bumblebees have got their vengeance by causing a nick or two). Looking at your photos I’d want to deal with that this summer, rather than leave it until next year.

As geobloke says, more important is the greater bulkhead structure, chassis and particularly rear cross member….

Agree with the above ^

The screen surround is one of a number of weaknesses but easily remedied.

That bulkhead corrosion doesn’t look too onerous but better to have a further examination in and around those areas already pointed out.

Good luck 🤞
