On the left one, you need to drill the 2 rivets on the horizontal capping as well.
On the right one, need to remove the bolts for the spare wheel carrer. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Few pics on the build thread of my old 110dc from when I swapped the rear 1/4 panels and threshold strip
https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39170.html Its quite a daunting job but quite straight forward when you get into it Paul 2000 90 TD5,galv chassis, d2 axles ,Bas remap , alisport intercooler , d2 transfer box , side windows-more to come-much more!! *GONE* 2004 110 TD5 Double cab. *GONE* 2010 110 2.4 XS station wagon |

Thanks Paul. I guess made easier by not having a top section on the rear tub to remove the panels?
I think I will have the issue of the x-member tabs on mine are external to the panel, whereas yours are behind the panel 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

John, wonder if you could slide the new panel sideways, from the door opening area to the edge. But understand that you do not want to find out that it does not work after cutting the old panel off! 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

John,
With yours being a TD5, does it not have the rear body mounting bar behind the body on the rear tub (with all 10bolts in) like my TD5 and Marsie rather than the 5 individual tabs on the outside (each with 2 bolts) like the old older ones? If so there shouldnt be anything stopping you removing the panel with the top capping still in position [Edit] just looked back on the first page and noticed you have the older style rear crossmember. Hi Steve.
Mine is a 1999 TD5, so one of the early ones and thus the external supports 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

There are 2 different TD5 rear mounts
Early type mounts on 5 separate tabs on the outside of the body and looks like the pre td5 style but is actually a removable mounting bracket held with 4 M8 bolts to the rear crossmember instead of welded tabs on the pre td5 Later style is a continuous angle iron type mounting on the inside of the panel which also bolts to the rear crossmember with 4 M8 bolts The later style was done to "tidy" the rear end up but in reality caused a mud trap that is more prone to rotting out the alloy panels and not as easy to wash dirt away 2000 90 TD5,galv chassis, d2 axles ,Bas remap , alisport intercooler , d2 transfer box , side windows-more to come-much more!! *GONE* 2004 110 TD5 Double cab. *GONE* 2010 110 2.4 XS station wagon |
