There have been a number of 4-cyl 2.0 litre diesel (D200/D240) engine failures on the Facebook groups. Read into that what you will. Oil dilution is not a problem any more as the engine bay packaging is done correctly as Tim says, but personally I think the smaller engine is stressed in such a big heavy vehicle.

The 4-cyl diesel was phased out for 2021MY and replaced with the 6-cyl 3.0 litre ones (D200/D250/D300) and the bigger screens were indeed not available until much later so I’m not sure what is going on there. Perhaps a retrofit has been applied to an earlier vehicle.

Don’t quote me to the letter on the screen size I’m just going on what the dealer has said, clear sight, IDD, larger screen.

I couldn’t tell from looking at it if it’s got the bigger screen or not.

Engine wise I did drive a smaller engined D5 when I bought mine in 2018 and it did appear a bit gutless if I recall, and lacked that ease of torque when driving.

The car is at Marshall’s Peterborough and is £58k, in grey.
I quite like it myself and I think it is reasonably priced.
To get the D300 albeit and as said it is newer it’s another £20k or there abouts so I’m not entirely sure I can justify that but I’m gonna have to drive one of each to make sure I’m making the right decision.
My heads saying buy the one at £58 and it has the added bonus of having a manufacturers extended warranty !
Something that they’re doing throughout Jan as an offer.

What I’m effectively trying to achieve here is replace my D3, pound for pound the best car I’ve ever owned ! And I think that was 175bhp back in the day, and it was manual !
Those that have crept across here from over there know what I mean about the D3/4.

Just need to look at this objectively, which is all well and good until you see one on the road and it’s

This one?

Looks like the smaller screen to me. The larger one overlaps the rail at the top of the dashboard, as seen here:

Yes that’s the one, altho the interior on that 2nd pic re screen looks a lot better darker wuth the panel and the steering wheel spokes in dark colour.
Also black headlining looks very nice. DEFENDER XS CSW 08 TONGA GREEN

Marshall's also have this Ex LRE D300 SE KT21LPF which you may want to avoid unless you want a well used one! Laughing

Thanks, I shan’t be buying any of the LRE stuff, that’s been well documented over the years on various other sister sites to this one,

I have the odd-one-out selection a 6 pot D200 (rather than the earlier 4 pot D200) - was only available for a short time in 2021 on the S Spec (and base) - think you can only get it in an HT now.

And there never was a 'large screen' D240 combo - the 11" screen wasn't introduced until after they switch to 6 pot diesels - mines a 'small' 10" screen Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Me too. Mines a base spec, probably a fairly rare vehicle now. And better specced than many posh ones these days Laughing

I maintain the 6-cylinder D200 is the best of the lot. Good power and torque in the least stressed engine design.

I’d agree, some of the ones for sale used have all sorts that they’ve omitted,

Just found out to day that Matrix headlights aren’t an option ? Small but significant no sunglasses holder, clear view camera, IDD, missing bits here and there all amounts to an HSE in worse spec than a used SE,
Seems the production at the factory has sped up but at what cost ? DEFENDER XS CSW 08 TONGA GREEN

l've got a 2022 90 HT in Tasman Blue with the steel wheels.

l get loads of comments from customers such as "love your vehicle" and "nice Defender"
Everyone round here seems to have the fully kitted out versions, even the local builders 90 HT has everything ticked...lunch box, snorkel, ladder, phat alloys, etc

l've saved £30,000 by limiting the extras to a centre console, fog lamps, tow bar, leather steering wheel and associated cold weather kit and the solar reflective windscreen
Most of my budget for extras was swallowed up by the £4,000 price increase l had to pay, plus the forced £3,000 upgrade to the D250 as they deleted the D200.
Oh and the Tasman Blue was an extra £899 but l am glad l ticked that box, it looks lovely. l wanted the white roof but that was another £1,000

That does look lovely in blue, and the steelies look great. There’s some add ons to make them as expensive as is humanly possible but sometimes less is more.

I set out initially to have a 90 as I’ve never been keen on the 110 of old, having had a few of each I’d kinda written one off. But the wife has other ideas ? And having ventured on some pretty long excursions I know that it’s not all gonna fit in a 90 so I’m set on a 110 for now.

Counting the hours away till I can get home and get sat in one and take it for a decent drive.
I’ve arranged a demo from my local dealer who’s been helpful in sorting that out.
Just looking forward to getting my hands on one, seeing if there’s one about in the spec I want or need and skipping the waiting list and the twoing and froing over who pays for what, what’s been dropped and what’s not.
I’ll buy whatever’s in front of me that ticks the boxes and then just live with it. DEFENDER XS CSW 08 TONGA GREEN

Base look is the way forward Thumbs Up

Loved my 21MY 90, an S spec which was as base as I could get.

110 jury’s still out, though it now has steels. It’s the 250 though really don’t notice much of a difference over the 200 in my 90.

l like the 110 and would have had a 110 Commercial if l could've afforded it.

Like the old 110, it would likely tow our caravan better due to the longer wheelbase and you've much more room in the back.

We'll have to put more of our gear in the caravan when travelling from now on.

Also a fan of the "less is more" vibe. So many around me and think mine is the only one on steels. Loads of blacked out and dark grey with unused roof racks/lunch boxes/ladders. Was only ever a toss up between blue and green for me and would have loved more solid colours. The base HT is still so well kitted out it's more comfortable and capable than most pick ups. And the good thing is that there isn't much to downgrade! No IDD? Wasn't supposed to have it anyway. Meridian? Wasn't an option even if I wanted it. Laughing https://instagram.com/bentheoandrews
