Off-road pack
I see that the off-road pack includes an electronic differential. I assume that this is a standard rear locking diff.
Does this mean that the base spec does not have this?

no, it's a physically different diff.

You should be able to retrofit the e-diff, but that will require programming to get it integrated into the Terrain Response system.

IIRC, it's been done before on D3/D4/RRS.

Save yourself the hassle and just order it with the e-diff Thumbs Up --

Unless you're planning extreme off road it's unlikely you'll ever see it in action.

However if you've got the money, it won't do any harm to spend the extra £2,000 and have it there just in case.

l never got stuck in my old 2005 Defender and it didn't even have the optional traction control system fitted.

Or you can spec it on its own without the other bits if you don’t want them.
I had the rear e-diff on my last RRS and was surprised how often it engaged on the road in standing water and other slippery conditions - it was also handy Offroad on that car’s 22” road tyres

I wanted it on my current 110 but the dealership only had one car in their compound with it but it had no anti-theft gear on that particular car and it was originally an option on very early cars so I went for the car I most liked in their stock that had the security system instead. I;ve specked the Offroad pack to be on my 90 that is on order though. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

Got it on my 90HT and it seems to work well and seamlessly. When recovering some cars from ditches recently it just locked and gave extra traction where other 4x4's had failed the same recovery Laughing

Also locks when coming out of corners to give extra grip when accelerating, all part of the torque vectoring I guess.

l thought the new Defender had advanced traction control that vectored torque to the wheels with the most grip anyway?

l've seen a video testing a standard 90 when only one wheel had traction, and the vehicle instantly drove forward.

l can't see why you'd need to lock the rear diff when accelerating if the vehicle already has the facility to send drive to the wheels with most grip.

Even our 2020 Jimny manages that, although in the case of only one wheel having grip it takes a couple of seconds for the traction control to figure it out.

I used to organise a lot of off road events. People had LR vehicles with lots of different combinations, locking diff with road tyres, etc etc too many combinations to mention. We found the thing that makes the biggest difference is the driver. My wife could get a standard car more places without issues compared to the bloke with locking diffs, big chunky tyres and no idea. So spend your money on some training first Thumbs Up then you can make your own mind if you need an ediff. Thumbs Up

The car comes with a central e-diff as standard and it works pretty well with just that. I’ve done a couple of runs on lanes in the the Lakes with a couple of other 110s one of which had the optional rear diff and the other two of us went everywhere without any problems just a little more wheel slip. The traction control is excellent on snow too and I ended up before Christmas sliding backward down a steep icy slope in D and one wheel found grip after enough wheel spinning and slowly slowly we climbed back up the slope to turn around to go down the right way around on the 2nd attempt.
Here’s video comparing D250 with and without and a D240 without it - I’ve done this run twice in my D240 without the rear locker with this group

Thanks all. I do a fair amount of off-roading including a lot of rock crawls through the desert so sounds like it's a must
