To be honest (and l won't be popular for this) l find electric vehicles boring to drive. I borrowed my friends Tesla and after the novelty of the lightning fast acceleration wore off, it's just a case of sitting there turning the steering wheel.

What?

I much prefer driving electric than an IC especially a rattling diesel and a constant up and down the 7/8speed box. Instant acceleration, single gear (typically), and instant torque. A few people among us spend £££ tuning the I/C to achieve a better result. Instant not lighting acceleration is a joy.

I went up to London on Boxing day (family) and got caught up by an accident for 30mins. I was in my VW California and it was horrible, 1st, 2nd, 1st, 2nd, stop, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, stop, 1st, 2nd, 1st for 30mins. Stop / start/ off. Stop / start/ ticking over not going anywhere, stop, start again..... arghh. The the car in front is kicking out fumes.........

I said l wouldn't be popular for the comment! l judge vehicles on whether driving them makes me want one. None of the electric vehicles l've driven have left me wanting one.

As above, I’ve looked at a few but there’s not one that I’d say I would love to own. But I suppose they’re none of the brands I’d buy an ice vehicle from either. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

Having completed nearly 30k km driving my P400e, mostly in electric mode, i would not hesitate to trade it in for a fully electric defender in the future if they ever make one. Current: MY22 P400e SE

Yep another PHEV owner here - a fully electric one would absolutely kick a$$!

Even with only ~100bhp and 20/25 miles range the PHEV is amazing, and has an unmatched level of control off road.

Just remains to be seen what the range and infrastructure is like when the full EV comes out.

When you think how many defenders do mostly local journeys I think the EV will be perfect for many (not all) owners. Cheers, David

As much as I really love my Defender, I will exchange it to the electric version if that isn't too expensive. As I drive about 3131 km per month with Diesel prices too high even here in Luxembourg that's nearly 6000 €/year just at the station. 22MY Defender 110 (actual) | 10MY Freelander 2 (history) | 15MY Discovery Sport HSE (history)

At the start of this week I had a RRS 440e phev on order. Got fed up with delays and sales chaps’ lies about changes in delivery date and cancelled. Then, I came quite close to buying a diesel defender this week. But after thinking long and hard about it I realised I couldn’t go back to a diesel (previous car was a Jaguar iPace, wife has Volvo c40 and I have previously had a bmw i3). Currently have a Volvo xc90 phev. Early on the ipace had a problem and I had a full fat Range Rover vogue se 275bhp diesel. Dreadful Powertrain compared to the ipace - sluggish and lumpy in comparison.

I might have considered a defender phev if it was vaguely tax efficient - under 50kW of co2 and over 40 miles electric range

The odds of a defender being able to manage 300 miles from 100kWh of battery is remote to say the least. My ipace couldn’t get much past 240 in perfect conditions from 90kWh. Maybe the discovery would be a better choice for EV - at least it’s a bit more aerodynamic

Anyway, if there were an EV defender I would have signed up for it already. Well, assuming the range was vaguely acceptable. So maybe not Big Cry

I was in a Rivian pick up in the US last week. Very impressive. If I lived in Europe it would be a no brainer, but its limited to left and drive and with no dealer network to support you in the UK its sadly a non starter.
