Injector cleaning
Wise ones

I’m changing the injector seal washers on the Puma soon and seeing as I’ve got a little ultrasonic bath, I’m thinking about popping the injectors in for a quick spruce up. My question is A: Am I being more of an imbecile than usual? and B: presuming I’m not, what’s the best cleaner to use?

NB she’s done 110K with the occasional slug of fuel treatment.

Thanks

Obvious Notes : Do not use any solvent in the bath directly, use deionised / filtered water in the bath then in a container put a solvent in with the injector, I would use something like a pint glass (tall, good volume and inert) put a layer of foil over the solvent container (reduces evaporation, and trapes the micro aerosol of droplets created by the ultrasonics), hang the injector so the tip does not touch the sides or bottom, (glass on metal vibrational rubbing).

What solvent : something very clean like lighter fluid, cellulose thiners (xylene or toluene) or even something like Aspen 4 stroke alkylated fuel. You could use something like undiluted diesel injector cleaner since it not only is clean, but also contains "detergents" that may help soften or disperse and bulld up in the jets. I would also try to prime each of the injectors with the solvent you are using. (ultrasonic cleaning only works in a liquid media to transmit the soundwaves, causing micro-cavitation)

How long : Try 30 sec, then 1 min, then 5 mins, look for amount of cleaning, and check for damage / etching !

Sorry to teach you things you may know already, but I have learned from expirence Big Cry Zaid-M

could you put the injectors side ways in a ultrasonic bath if the tip section is protected? Td5 110 Station

I'd avoid this horizontal direction, it suggests imersing the whole injector inc electrical conectors.

My fear / thought woud be damage to the conector/pins/seals that hold the electronics/sparky bits. Only the bottom 1/3 of the injector is the dirty/clogged bit why sink the whole assembly?

Also your going to need a pretty big ultrasonic bath so lay an injector down in. Zaid-M
