Giving up caffeine and booze
Has anyone else done this? I'm on new meds which mean I have to give up caffeine and alcohol. No tea, coffee, cola or booze for 4 days and I feel like Censored , like I've got flu! Headache and gutache are the worst. Any fellow sufferers? Any advice?
Cheers

I havn't been able to have alcohol for over a year due to medication, can't say I have missed it. I think I would notice it more if I couldn't have coffee though, but there is always decaf. 2011 110 USW

I think no caffeine is worse for me too - been on decaf teabags the last few days but still feel rough as hell... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

Years ago I cooperated in an experiment for pharmaceutical research. Indeed one week no booze and caffeine. Same experience as you (headache etc). After some days you get used to it. But you know what: after you start drinking again (coffee, booze) the headache comes again! Crying or Very sad Cheers, Vincent

I dread to think what it will be like when (if) I can have alcohol again, as I didn't really get on with it before! 2011 110 USW

When I was serving I knew a bloke who would purge his body once a year. He would go a whole calendar month of drinking nothing but water Shocked . He reckoned it cleared his body of all the horrible toxins(?) that coffee/tea/booze left in his system.

Well, at least if he did it more than once it might not be so bad for me (once I stop feeling crap)

I had some health issues and medications last year which meant a water only and I soon got used to it, in fact I found it improved my sense of taste a lot. Due to a return of the health problem I am again on water only - interestingly the symptoms improved a lot as soon as I gave up coffee and tea a couple of weeks ago. Steve.

Headache is actually getting a bit better today and not feeling as crap - light at the end of the tunnel, I hope Wink
Thanks for all the comments and helpful input and good luck to all fellow "ex-coffees" (sorry - couldn't think of anything better)

I'm a pretty hyped up person anyway, 1/2 a teaspoon of coffee makes me climb up the wall, 3 days of that sends me loopy, blood pressure up etc and when I come off it have a headache for 2 days - not good stuff!! Cancerous as well apparently. My poison is real ale. I'm lucky as I used to drink a lot but I won't go into that here, just edited a whole section Whistle Rural Dorset culture and rugby drinking culture saw lots of bodily abuse for years BUT don't regret it best times of my life - great fun, crazy times just can't do it anymore. For instance used to make the annual pilgrimage to Sunbury on Thames for a major camping drinking session 30+ pints over two days but can't do that now, I would be in bed for 2 days afterwards!!

A lot of my mates can't drink at all now for health reasons or they are permanently on the wagon through alcoholism - I was lucky! Can still enjoy a pint...
