which holes do factory tow eyes go into? (D90 photo request)
So, just about finished putting my 90 back to standard.

But I need to refit the factory front and rear towing eyes (the hoops that bolt to the chassis rails) as I had removed them altogether having had much sturdier recovery points fitted. I've got the hoops and the points out of the toolbox ready to refit... only I can't remember which holes they go through on either the front or the back and after painting the chassis, there aren't even any witness marks.

I've looked through the parts catalogue and have been Google-Image-Searching with no joy.

Could anyone with a Puma 90 (or, I assume, a TD5 90) do me a massive favour and grab me a couple of photos of how they fit at the front and at the back and on which side the washer goes (presumably under the nut).

These are the ones I'm talking about:

Thank you very much.

Just being pedantic, but they aren’t towing eyes. There just put on as tie down points during transportation.

Those are indeed lashing points for transport and not ideal as a towing point.
If they have excessive shock load on them the fixing could tear the chassis hole open a little.
Elongating the chassis hole, and the fixings aren’t overly robust either.
I seem to remember they were used for transport when built new, and also harks back to military use and cargo lashing points for transportation in aircraft etc with the army and with helicopters and things like that.

I have them on mine but they are bolted flat against the surface, so present but not used at all.

The same thing applies with Jate rings too, though they can be useful I’d consider them a light duty securing point and not suitable for recovery use. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

I you want to have originality. You will need to drop the fuel tank as the bolt for the rear lashing point goes from the ‘inside’ and nut is against the lashing point itself. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Thanks Dunnu. I’m an idiot! I just looked again under the back of the 90 and realised that I left the bolt in place for exactly that reason: I had just undone the nut, removed the eye and then tightened up the nut again.

That’s why I couldn’t see an obvious hole to reattach the eye.

Thank you!
