I had to do a bit of a high [well relatively speaking] speed dash to the vet yesterday morning as one of my young Labs ran into a wasp nest while on away on a blind retrieve. She was literally plastered in wasps by the time I got to her and suffered multiple stings, I got a few as well as once clear of the nest I had to pinch loads of the nasty out of her coat before getting her back to the farm to pick up the Defender.
This was taken later in the day when the swellings had gone down a lot.. Click image to enlarge Steve. Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Finally got around to re-fitting the rear mudflaps after painting the crossmember. Fitted a new one to the RHS as the old one was split. Nice new stainless nuts and bolts and lashings of Duralac a round too

That's horrible! Our black lab has had a few stings but nothing that bad. A lot of wasps here this year- I got stung on the neck two weeks ago. Also had a hornet's nest (had it Rentokil'd) a while back - they are EVIL things. Wasps seem to have no reason for being on this planet. I squish them as often as I possibly can. One stung our little boy in the eye just over a year ago - full on A&E job as we weren't sure how he'd react. It was all okay but flipping horrible - he was only about 20 months old. Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion. |

My sister uncovered a wasp's nest when we were kids playing hide and seek in the garden. She emerged completely covered in them and went into shock. It was very scary, fortunately a quick-witted childminder knew what to do. She was in real mess afterwards though and very uncomfortable for a few days. It's shocking how much damage a little insect can inflict! 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green |

Getting OT here: Some folks [and dogs] are allergic to them and can go into anaphylactic shock within minutes of being stung and this being a young bitch and her not experiencing anything like this before I didn't know what effect lots of stings would have on her. Wasps do good in that they kill some insect pests but this late in the year they have little to do other than eat fruit which makes them stroppy. They give off a pheromone when they sting or are dying which attracts their mates, if I hadn't been able to get the dog to leg it with me under it's own steam to get a long way from the nest it would have been a lot worse. Pulled the boat out after a rather bracing blast down the Fal.
Landy hardly even notices it! Boat now pressure washed and ready for more action. Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion. |

Took the new Defender (26 days old now) offroad for the first time. A bit of gentle green-lanes and forest tracks, got it muddy!
Fantastic, it just growns on me all the time! [/b] Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |
