15p - Engine question
I received my replacement engine with about 165k km on the odometer. Will replace all the seals and gaskets on it, give it a proper clean up paired with new water pump, Clutch, Flywheel as well ... what I'm however not sure is if the visco fan is still good or should be replaced. Also do i understand correctly that this one came with the AC compressor already mounted (right upper) or if thats something else (power steering?)

thanks for sharing your insights Td5 110 Station

The viscous fan is best tested when the engine is installed and running. But, the TD5 viscous fan is a reliable old thing. The only fault they might exhibit is play in the internal bearing which is best diagnosed as play across the bearing. Push the top of the fan towards the engine, any play will be obvious.

As for the AC compressor. They are always top right as you view the engine from the rad. If it was from a Discovery then it will have come with one, if from a Defender it might have had AC if spec'd to XS. If you do not have AC then you can remove the compressor and fit a non-AC belt and idler pulley.
