The viscous fan is best tested when the engine is installed and running. But, the TD5 viscous fan is a reliable old thing. The only fault they might exhibit is play in the internal bearing which is best diagnosed as play across the bearing. Push the top of the fan towards the engine, any play will be obvious.
As for the AC compressor. They are always top right as you view the engine from the rad. If it was from a Discovery then it will have come with one, if from a Defender it might have had AC if spec'd to XS. If you do not have AC then you can remove the compressor and fit a non-AC belt and idler pulley. |
