This was my fear it could be head gasket but I must say at this point nothing is jumping out in terms of classic symptoms like coolant loss, block tested, hot and cold temp from blowers etc. so hoping it’s something else at this point but will keep and eye out. At the moment power loss and over heat has happened randomly, no two driving situations the same when it happened if that makes sense. I have a cheap OBD reader that gives live readings so will hook that up and take some readings. Is it the ECT temp or IAC temp I should be keeping and eye on?? |

I’ll check the temperature gauge tomorrow morning and see if it moves at all…should or shouldn’t it move? If so what does this indicate?
I’ve been out in it again this afternoon (about 120min round trip) and no issues again!! So with the mechanic having it for a couple weeks with a few road tests and the couple I’ve done since having her back, including a longer run today, it hasn’t done it once!? So confused what this means? The other question i was going to ask is that I changed the VCV before the mechanic got hold of it as things pointed to that. I did one short road test after fitted, were it done the power loss/temp rise. So assumed it didn’t work and that’s when it got booked in… now I’m thinking (hoping!!) it may be common for this to happen on the first run while it is “relearning” as i didn’t have the tools to calibrate the new VCV. That’s why it hasn’t done it since and it’s all fixed now 🤞🏻😳😂 |

My CHT sensor gave me very similar faults to you, issues there one day and the next then gone for a few days even weeks. The indicator was the temp needle would rise slightly when cold, I think the CHT sensor was messing with the ecu 2016 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

Great thanks. Think I will change this then. Is it an easy sensor to swap out?

A little tricky, I had to sacrifice a deep reach socket and cut a slot for the cable.

Is there a way to test the CHT sensor to see if that is at fault after removal? Also did you get any error codes before changing? It happened again to me today! This time on the motorway with my family and needed recovery! So i need to know if this is the issue after replacement before trusting her again on a family road trip!! At least with this issue anyway!! |

By the way I haven’t changed the CHT sensor yet as it hadn’t done it in a while and I stupidly assumed it may be a one time problem!
