Good point OSkool. That was my concern when I got stuck in a deep hole filled with water for an hour or so until I was recovered. But the newer swivels do not have drain plugs! 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

You would be lucky to find any LR running anything other than OSG in the swivels, I remember running 1000 grade heavy oil in my series swivels because even when they are in perfect condition they will eventually leak, even Toyota and Nissan owners in OZ use LR OSG because of leaks, it's a road worthy failure if there is leaking from them.

Was thinking... if using EP90 so that any water that leaks in can drain out... then surely oil is also coming out if the water can go in. Or the difference in viscosities can allow the water to leak in but not the oil to leak out?

To get the water out of the swivels you do an oil change, like changing the engine oil. Drain out the dirty oil with contamination then refill with fresh oil. You can't do that with OSG, so presumably just leave the water and grease festering in there until something fails (CV joint or swivel bearings)?
