Cubby box refurb.

Has anyone stripped the vinyl off a cubby box? Mine is looking a bit tatty and I thought stripping the vinyl off and painting it, then just recovering the lid might give it a smarter look. However I don't want to strip it and find it is a rough looking underneath. It is a genuine LR grey vinyl one.

I never stripped one, but made repairs to the bottom of mine. The material is MDF, and that is generally very smooth. However edges of MDF could be very porous and will absorb the paint. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Is it the light grey variation with techno cloth?

If so it's really not that much for Britpart replacement which are very good quality.

Personally wouldn't bother with a DIY job given the variety out there.

FWIW I "skinned" it this weekend. Mine is of plywood construction and well finished so a quick sand and paint should tidy it up nicely.
