EV mode not available
Anyone else found the car is over reliant on the engine since the latest update (3.3.0)?

Sometimes it says “EV mode not available” and even when in EV mode it will jump back to hybrid mode after a mile at most.

It has done this sometimes after updates for one journey but this is 5-10 journeys and 200+ miles later Cheers, David

I haven't found that the 3.3.0 update has been any worse for this than previous updates. For the first 2 days it would refuse to revert to electric if the petrol engine had been engaged for any reason, but no occurrences since.

I still don't understand why we have to go through this every time we have an update. Current: MY22 P400e SE

Since a couple of weeks before the latest update, and post the update last week, my car won't start in EV mode anymore.

Always starts in hybrid with really high revs.

Is very weird.

I can flick it into EV mode after a minute of driving.

Is all a bit odd, and disappointing tbh, as used to start in EV if I finished the previous drive in EV.

in slightly different ways, no, things are still not right :

- The car will never start in EV mode now.
- When it starts in hybrid, it's with massively high revs.
- That said, I only need to drive it for a short distance before it will go into EV mode.
- It has happened once, as you've described, that I was in EV mode and then it flicked out, but hasn't happened again.

If honest, I'm hugely frustrated. I used to do the school run (c. 5 miles each way) solely in EV mode, whereas now I wake up the neighbours with high revs 07:30 in the morning, and if I have the windows down when hot, get a load of fumes.

It isn't the latest software update, as started to occur a few weeks before the update occurred for me.

Shame really, as love everything else about the car.

That’s a shame for such an expensive purchase. Sadly all to often we hear the same issues on LR forums for the new complicated gear they are selling.

I recall the Disco Sport’s having similar issues early on. 1951 80" S1 2.0

Just a thought; have you tried running pre-conditioning on the car for 5mins before you actually try and start your journey in EV mode? Current: MY22 P400e SE

Update: Think I might have fixed it.

I put my fault code reader on it (don’t know why I hadn’t done so far!) and it had thrown a fault code ‘P0D3D’ which seems to be a generic ‘high voltage charger input voltage out of range’ error. I cleared the code and just completed a 5+ mile test drive fully in EV mode, which was previously completely impossible.

Hopefully that’s that but I’ll report back with any further progress. Haven’t tried a ‘cold start’ yet but will see the next time I come to it cold. Cheers, David

^ That's great if this has sorted it, lucky you have the code reader also.

For most 'normal' owners I guess its a trip to the garage and that's a phaff....

I bought a code reader for the old one and its a very handy bit of kit, these news ones though are so clever (or are they?) doing updates while it sits on your drive Smile

Yep fingers crossed - I’m assuming (hoping) the fault code was triggered by me unplugging or plugging in incorrectly to a charger at some point rather than anything ‘real’.

Definitely worth having a code reader with the new defender - only £50 or less from Amazon etc and very easy to use Cheers, David

Hi all, Im not having the issues noted above since installing 3.3.0 but has anyone noticed their car charging to a lower range? Pre update it would charge with a 42-43km range, now im only getting 36-37km?

Just updating for the future record really - it did turn out to be a slightly more complicated issue than I'd thought...

Long story short, LR Assist came out for a quick diagnostic (worth knowing - much quicker than going to the dealer!) and quickly identified that it was the electric heater that had an issue. So any time the car demanded cabin heating it was firing up the engine to use the conventional heating system, hence the intermittent issues...

Hopefully a new heater should fix it. Am booked in the dealer in a couple of weeks.

(NB. out of interest, the electric heater looks like a big computer hard drive on the right hand side of the engine bay [left if looking from the front of the car], with a bright orange high voltage cable going into it. Presumably pretty easy to replace but don't know if there are complexities with attempting any 'DIY' working on the high voltage system!) Cheers, David

Glad you go managed to sort the issue. Could you let me know the model of code reader you have please? Is there somewhere that lists the Land Rover codes and explains what each relates to?

Mine’s just a really generic fault code reader from Amazon, nothing special at all, you need to google the fault code really.

You’d need something more specialised to interpret the codes for you Cheers, David
