I've clocked up just over 17k km and am coming up to 1 year of ownership. The car's telling me next service isn't due for another 16k km, I've heard nothing from the dealer either to suggest a 1 year service is due. Has anyone taken theirs after 1 year? Current: MY22 P400e SE

I would get it done if just to get the oil replaced and everything checked.
Especially if you own it and want to keep it. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS, I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

Of the 17k km probably less than 30% of that was using the engine though. Current: MY22 P400e SE

one of the biggest issues with oil is condensation in the engine moving to the oil forming water so lower engine running and stop starting may be worse than regular hot running DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I’ve just booked mine in for a simple 1yr oil change to be safe…
Have always changed the oil on my cars every year pretty much and 24k miles seems like a long time to go on the ‘run in’ oil to me! Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

The guide says to half the service interval if using the vehicle in ‘arduous’ conditions which includes towing, off road driving and even frequent shorter journeys etc
The service interval being so long isn’t purely determined by what’s best for the engine, but also a lot of commercial/marketing/environmental considerations Those who know their stuff, in my experience, always recommend changing the oil (not a full service) more frequently. And if there’s one time to do it, it’s the first time around when the oil is also having to clear away any swarf and other fine debris which has accumulated as the new engine runs itself in. To those who know their stuff (probably me running utility vehicle fleets for circa 39 years) would agree with some of what your saying, but wouldn’t you expect the actual vehicle manufacturer to “know their stuff” better?
As an owner of a Defender I also change my oil and filter annually irrespective of meeting the expected time/mileage, but growing up working on dirty diesels on 6K intervals it’s a personal thing. So really to all…. do what you think suits you, your usage and budget, but don’t exceeed the manufacturer recommended interval Ride like you stole it!! Bit of a contradiction above, let the modern vehicle tell you and advise that when changing your own annually?
Modern vehicles and modern oils last longer and cope better with wider ranges of application. Some engines, ie the block cope well on extended changes. Some don't. In my experience turbos like good quality oil regularly. I change oil every 12mths or 12k miles. Exception is a new vehicle when I change it between 500/1000miles. It’s not a contradiction because I don’t have the technology on my old model Defender to benefit from any oil degradation measuring insight or whatever algorithms JLR have set for service parameters, it’s left to humans to decide what fits best for our defenders lifestyle and purse.
