Raptor towing capacity

Hi all,

There is a question i just want to clarify the answer about, so;

I have a vehicle that can tow a max of 2.5tonne, atm i am towing a trailer thats only 350kg empty (but it can take 3.5tonne)
I am loading a pig into it on sunday that is prob about 100kg so would mean im towing a max of 450kg,
My mate is saying this is still illegal because the trailer is rated to 3.5tonne, even if im not actually towing 3.5tonne...

So if my car isnt rated to 3.5tonne, i still shouldnt pull a trailer thats rated to 3.5tonne even if im towing it empty at 350kg?

Is this correct or is my mate wrong?

This is a braked trailer i have which im guessing that still applies
