2012 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 XS CSW Orkney Grey

Whilst I appreciate the above NOT fans comments and agree they take away from the classic Ninety look. I do feel the above photo makes them look bigger than they are in the flesh. This is may be slightly better photo...

Still can’t agree, but acknowledge that personal taste is incontrovertible!

Apart from the aesthetic I can’t see the benefit: I see poor off road ability, compromised drivability, increased unsprung weight and thumping into potholes, 15% higher gearing than stock resulting in a slower top speed, reduced acceleration and constant swapping between 4th and 5th at cruising speed. JB

I have to say I was expecting the above negative effects, but genuinely haven't noticed any difference. It is 38 yrs old and driven accordingly, but no issues whatsoever. James

1986 Defender 90 2.5 n/a Diesel PU Buckingham Blue

Bonnet Lock

Hi, been following this for a while as I am currently restoring nearly the exact same car (1986 90 soft top - converted from truck cab). Looking at the bonnet lock hole on the front panel - is this a blanking plug or still the lock? Only as I no longer have the lock after converting to a td5 bonnet so was wondering if you had used a plug? I cannot quite tell from your pictures.

The lock is indead still a lock. However, it was painted over during the respray, I suspect it would originally just be finished black? Not a great photo but best I have on my mobile. If you need photos under the bonnet, I can take some for you?

Thanks for that. Unfortunately i do not have the lock anymore and looking for replacements brings up scary prices. I will probably look for a bung of some sort!

My build is taking its time but its getting there - full nut and bolt from chassis up. I will need to make a decision on wheels/tyres soon. Currently sat on puny 215's but looking to go bigger and wider.

Just fill the hole with a rubber grommet for now and keep an eye out for a lock. I'm sure one will come up at reasonable cost evenutually.

I look forward to see more as teh build continues.
