New engine options?
My friend went down to Sytner today to finalise the purchase of his 110 (non-commercial)

He was told that the D250 is "no longer available for new
orders" and the vehicle will be petrol only.
Existing orders will be fulfilled
This is because Land Rover are "losing too much money" presumably on this power train option?

Can anyone confirm this? l wonder if the D250 still be offered in the Commercial?

No idea but to me that doesn’t make sense since it’s the same engine used throughout the whole diesel range. Why specifically target the 250, and not the 200 and 300? I just picked up D250 but haven’t driven it. I’ve been driving the D200 for the past 7 months and found it absolutely grand.

They canned the D250 in 110 format in Australia quite early on, it’s only available in the 90 S model.. yet another pommie bar steward down under

Just buy a 200 and have it mapped with the 250 or 300 files. 👍

Just playing with the configurator, as I do when I'm bored. The 110 hardtop is currently only available in diesel format. Can't see that changing.
And I'm assuming a glitch in the matrix as the SE has the option of detachable or electric towbar BUT the HSE only has the option of the detachable which I find strange 110 D250 SE HT

JLR have generated record levels of orders thanks to launching the new RR, RRS and 130.
Given that they couldn't fulfill existing customer orders in a timely manner, launching brand new models on top of this supply chain challenge seems greedy and irresponsible to me. But then again, I am a customer, not a shareholder, and it's clear who JLR are prioritising.

I guess the D300 is shared across the RR, RRS, Defender platforms. Stocking D250s for the cheapest Defenders and Discos is probably more of a headache than they need to bother with. For the same base engine with the boost turned up they can charge an extra £3.5k. Plus, I imagine those with the means for a D300 will also be adding fridges and windsor leather options. Classic supply and demand dynamics.

Removing Diesels completely sounds strange for the Defender, the torque from the diesels seem to suit the utility of the vehicle. I wonder if it's profit driven or emissions targets.

Look on the bright side though, at least they haven't sold your friend a D250 they know they wont be able to supply, and then cancelled or hiked the price 6 months down the line..
I would share a word of caution if your friend is thinking about stretching to a higher engine level; be aware that JLR will probably implement further price increases before delivery. So your friend should be under no illusion that this is the last barrel they're going to be bent over.

Buying cars from JLR today requires patience, flexibility and a series of visits to the barrel..

I see in the configurator that the new 'availability' toggle in 'build your own' drastically cuts down what models/engine options you can order for delivery within the next 12 months.

examples:
110s are only available in X-Dynamic P400e only
130s in X and X-Dynamic HSE D300 only
90s can still be ordered D250,D300,P525 - I guess they're the most popular?

HARDTOPS
D250 and D300 are available. No petrols.
