Fully loaded for a week on Tiree. Famous for the giant Atlantic waves and the world windsurfing championships each year. Daughter and I for a week in the sea, surfing, SUPs, cycling and camping.

I see you managed to sort out the 7 to 12 pin converter falling out issue, did you use a 7 to 7 pin extension cable so the converter connects at the trailer, not at the rear cross member.

Hi Keith,
Looks like a great trip, on lots of levels. Last time I was in Tiree, I had a corncrake fly out of the verge, get scared by the Defender, and fly straight down the road - about 1ft above the bonnet! I eased off the accelerator and as I slowed down it managed to get its act together and fly off to one side into a field. As close a view as you’re likely to get. But I actually wanted to ask for a ‘real world’ opinion on your Frontier stove flue water heater. I’ve had one of the stoves for several years - from when they were first developed as a ‘disaster response’ solution - but never went for the heater. How do you get on with it? Really useful or just ‘OK’? Ta Donald 1994 Defender 300Tdi 110 SW - owned since 2002 - 230k miles and going strong (The 'rolling restoration' or tinkering thread: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic58538.html ) 2000 Range Rover P38 4.0L V8 in the past.. Depends on one’s requirements for boiling water. If it’s only for yourself then no use at all. Although it uses the heat of the chimney and the stove top, it takes ages to boil. You have to have a raging fire on to get it up to boiling. For tea and coffee it’s no use unless you have multiple people because it will only boil dry with water for 1 cup or 2. It is really useful when it is full of hot water and lends itself to washing dishes, multiple teas, personal hygiene. For brews, use your jetboil, everything else fill it up. If cooking on the stove top then turn it around and it stays warm hanging on the chimney pipe. Cost wise, just use an old large campsite kettle always full and ticking over.

That’s more or less what I expected to be honest. Normally I’ll only use this stove if there’s two or more of us, and would still default to the jetboil as a ‘kettle’. I suppose I thought this heater might do some of the ‘heavy lifting’ - taking water from cold to a little warmer using heat which would otherwise be wasted. Then the heat could be topped up for washing dishes or people. It is probably worth considering for my useage then.
