Hey guys,
I have a 2012 2.2 TDCi Defender 90. I live in the United Arab Emirates, and during the summer temperatures rise to about 50+ C (122+ F). My oil temps rise to around 109 C (228 F) when in the motorway driving at 100 KMH (62 mph). Replaced the original thermostat with part number PEL500110 which opens up at a cooler temp unlike the original thermostat. Water temps are lower (they go upto 88 C or 190 F) but still want my car to drive cooler especially that its my daily drive and its really hot out here and also because it has an upgraded intercooler, turbo, and its remapped (more load on the engine). My question is have any of you guys tried out the Allisport uprated alloy radiator or any other aluminum radiator? Any reviews on the product? Any experience on how effective it is in cooling a 2.2 TDCi in hot climates? Also, is the Allisport Aluminum Rad a direct replacement to the factory radiator, as I have a bigger intercooler and want to know if it will fit. Here is the link to the product: https://www.allisport.com/shop/performance...placement/ Thanks, Mohamed. |

Have you thought of fitting a Defender Viscous Fan Spacer https://www.4x4overlander.com/product/defe...an-spacer/

I thought 2.2 TDCi’s already solved this issue. Isnt the fan on the 2.2 TDCi closer to the Rad than on the 2.4?

Your temperatures don’t sound high to me. My 2.2 oil temp easily reaches 109 on the motorway & it doesn’t take much of an uphill stretch for my coolant to hit the mid 90s & sometimes push through to low 100s centigrade. That’s driving in (UK).

Thanks for the insight bud! Certainly glad to know its a worldwide issue, not just here with the hot climates.

I also think that oil temperature is perfectly fine, in particular given your hot climate.
I've had no problems with a standard 2014 2.2. TDCi in Namibia. Also this diagram shows oil temperature around 105..112 C correlates to the DPF being cleaned, so that's a 'good' condition. This was a 200km drive on German motorways and country roads at a mere 25 °C outside temp. ![]() Click image to enlarge |

Thanks for the insight. Good to know its normal. Such a relief.
Although, I am still curious to know if the allisport radiator can better aid the cooling system. |
