2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 DCPU Stornoway Grey

A genuine rare thing on eBay

Anyone fancy a project? This is a genuine and extremely rare Series 3 One-Ton 109" Land-Rover (I believe that there were fewer of these built than either 2A or 2B Forward Controls). I understand that this was supplied new to Kennings, later sold to Lewis Autos, and the current seller is the third owner. For most of its life as a breakdown vehicle it operated on trade plate, hence the later registration.

I have actually seen this vehicle (I have no connection with the seller but I bought some parts from him) and it is low mileage (c. 50k) , exceptionally straight, and appears to have a very sweet 2.6 six-cylinder engine. It requires rust repairs to the bulkhead and some minor rust repairs elsewhere, but looks to be very good otherwise. It has, as far as I can see, all the original One-Ton parts except for the wheels, so the ENV axles, original main and transfer box, original low-ratio steering box and so on, are all there.

The present owner restores classic vehicles of all types and, not realising what this actually was, had intended to refurbish it as a S3 109" for his own use. To this end he sold the HF crane and the (extremely rare) wheels before I showed up and explained what it actually was. It appears he has subsequently changed his plan and is selling it as a project.

I can't comment on the price since I have no idea what these are worth (whatever someone will pay, I suppose), but if you are in the market for a project this might be worth a look. If nothing else it would be good to know that this gem has made it to a good and appreciative home.

Now that is a lovely thing. Its a crying shame that the vendor has sanded off all the signwriting.

Watching.

I have a similar looking Harvey Frost crane, if you buy it and want to return it back to a recovery vehicle.

Indeed, I would not disagree with either comment. I would have kept it exactly as it was as the Lewis Autos breakdown vehicle, but what is done is done.

Before he knew what it was, he'd sold the five rocking-horse-poo wheels for £295 for the lot.

Someone must have been laughing all the way home after collecting them.

As it happens, so do I

Was your HF fitted to a LWB or a SWB vehicle? If the latter, could you let me know the length, eye-to-eye, of the main strut with the winch halfway along it? I've been trying to find out how long that was on a SWB, but they are rarer than the LWBs for obvious reasons.

Ha ha - very true.

5x one ton rims for £295?

I have a set in loft that I’ve recently realised I could swap for 5x normal 5.5j rims… attached to a complete SIIA. The prices of them are bananas.

Agreed, it looked fantastic in its sign written garage truck form, removing all the parts and the sign writing ruined it for me.

I've noticed that the opening bid value is steadily dropping, it's gone from £8500 down to £6500 and is now down to £4500. It is becoming much more attractive and is getting harder to resist making a bid!

Must resist temptation.....

If you are on FaceAche BW there is a Land rover recovery group on there. I can ask the question if you want? I can also ask within the motorsport recovery group as well. We have a few with HF's in the rear. Mine is a Tow Boy version so no use for the measurements.
