N Type tow electrics

Are the N type tow electrics plug and play or plug and pay dealer to activate ?

If the "N" electrics are trailer / tailboard light (ie not caravan) then nothing for the dealer to do.

Just plug in behind plastic flap and off you go.

I fitted my genuine one into the oval/round moulding on the rear x-member, keeps it up out of the water (depending on how deep you wade)

Yup, as bpman says, get the correct LR Part (number LR005920), and it just plugs in to the car. All the electronics work straight away (such as the dashboard light shaped like a green trailer telling you the indicator on the trailer is working).

Up under the drivers side rear wheel, right at the back, above the crossmember (on a 110, best to lie on the ground with your head behind the back wheel) there's a feeble plastic flap with 2 screws - the connector is under there. Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

if you do get a new one take some time to waterproof it when you fit it - I used vaseline on all the pins/connectors. My original had corroded badly, the wires were all black so rewired using marine grade cable. Should hopefully stem corrosion for a while.

I meant to add, the genuine ones have gloopy silicone sealant over the socket end but I managed to take the other end apart and fed the wires through the rear of the x-member.

?? Funny,, all mine i have fitted, the plug when through the X member hole ok ?? no need to take apart

Tim, you must have some bigger holes in your rear x-member or simply more talented than me at hole manipulation
