Central locking / electrical fault
Evening all I have a 2003 90 xs station wagon
Working my way through some issues on my newly acquired defender .
When I bought privately I was told the central locking had been disconnected due to a electrical fault .
I’ve managed to speak to the previous garage who maintained it and they stated the green box behind the instrument cluster which houses the relay was changed to one that didn’t support central locking as original was faulty and that’s all they had .
They said I need to buy a kit from eBay called a 10AS, which is a relay that gets soldered onto the board . I’ve had an auto electrican do this but still no central locking .
I’m taking it apart he’s found several unknowns , can anybody firstly help with my central locking dilemma and secondly identify anything in photos.

Can't help with the wiring mod but re: the 10AS thing just look to a company like technozen.

Basically the base 10AS ECU spec did not come with the relays necessary to power the central locking. You remove your ECU post to Paul at Technozen and he'll add them back in to the spec that yours should be. I'm about to do this on mine as I'm retrofitting factory CL.

As your ECU isn't the original it might be worth Paul checking that all the alarm/immobiliser bits are activated too. Pretty painless and only costs about £50.

Give him a call, he's a nice lad.

EDIT: see you've already had an electrician have a go. Might be worth calling Paul in case there's something else that needs switched on. Failing that its out with the test lamp to find the fault.

I can't see a green 10AS in your pics unless I'm missing something.

Orange and pink wires control the CL actuators - someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly but the cut orange wire might be your issue.

The nasty blue and red repair is for electric windows, they break for a past time.

The wires going to the CDL motors in the door are pink and yellow and will lead directly to the 10AS box behind the dash.

If you google 'Land Rover Defender Td5 2002 wiring diagram' you will find several results linking you to a PDF version

The silver box could be some sort of power boost chip thingy? A tracker maybe? Does it say anything on it? Where do the wires go?

The silver box has no writing on it , a power chip is possible as the car does seem to have more power than others I’ve previously driven.
It has 3 wires one goes to ground one to the what I think is ecu and other I can’t trace.

I’m pretty sure that the 10AS has to be programmed to enable central locking, just adding the relays to the board is not enough. If the one in yours came from a base spec vehicle without central locking then the function will not be turned on in the software.

Evening all
So managed to get the 10AS module repaired by technos , amazing service !!!!!
Front doors are now working on the locking fob but the rear door makes a noise but dosent function .
Should the rear door lock / unlock with the central locking

Yes, as per wiring diagrams above.
Sounds like the rear CDL actuator is struggling to move the mechanism. This could be a High resistance wiring connection, stiff mechanism or weak actuator. Remove the rear door card, oil the mechanism and check electrical connections to actuator as a first step.

Noting that the wiring between the door and the body can fracture so may be damaged but not broken.
