Well, this is a right oddball !
Spotted on eBay, a very strange conversion. At first I thought it might have started as a 101" AP, but I now think it is a very modified 109". Definitely not your run-of-the-mill conversion (and I am sure it is not a Llama).

Discovery chassis and 10,000 pop rivits 😉

Edit: should have read the description more carefully.... As pointed out is a converted 109 chassis, which makes it a bit more of a cobble, looks proper funky though 😉

Yeah, I think it's a very modified 109", too - it says it's been converted from leaf springs to coils and what you can see of the chassis looks nothing like a 101". It's an interesting concept although some of the execution leaves a bit to be desired. Some of the description is a bit odd too - one part suggests that the seller has built it whilst another gives the impression that he doesn't know much about it Confused Darren

The main I.D appears to belong to the 1972 Series chassis that has been much modded and the seller says

"as it has had some chassis mods over the years then it is probably best to advise DVLA but that is obviously your choice"

I think i'd be very wary of going down that rabbit hole.

^^ I wouldn't touch it with a barge-pole myself, but as a concept I find it interesting, and it does remind me of the Llama (which I suspect had a marginally higher standard of build quality).

Conceptually it has merit but on a superficial assessment based solely on the advertisement it looks to me as though the execution leaves a lot to be desired.

Really needs a pop-up top, like an alu cab, to make the rear work as a useable space.

As above, love the concept and it looks good but would like to see the build quality in the flesh.
I wonder how the steering linkage works?
It has been for sale for several months.

The steering linkage works like any LHD Defender/Discovery/RRC. But do not ask me how to bleed it at that angle Rolling with laughter

About the spare tyres, the ad says "two spares, mounted on special rolling mounts to help with off-road mobility and this in itself is an amazing and cool feature. The original creator of this truck has to be applauded."

I wonder what can happen in some offroad conditions where the breakover angle is a bit high and on a steep incline. Can end up rolling on the spare wheels in an uncontrolled manner? that could be scary!! 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

I vaguely remember a thread on another LR forum about this, think the chap was originally building it for an all terrain hi mobility ambulance for a charity in Africa.
Off to get lost in google search.....

heavily chopped 101 FC chassis

I stand corrected!

It's interesting to read a bit of background on it but it just goes to show what a massive undertaking building these sorts of one-off vehicles are (Project Binky, anybody?). Darren
