D90 Rear fog lights not working
Hey all. I know this has been a topic before. My rear fog lights are not working. I did find some in the search. However, I am still confused about the Switch or Switches that trigger the rear fog lights. I am aware of the steering column one, but somewhere I read it sounded like there was another switch somewhere?

I have checked all my fuses and they are good. I am thinking of taking apart the steering column switch and making sure it's clean and getting good contact.

Thank you so much for any help 1989 Defender 90

Should only be one switch for your rear fog lights (the one on the column you are refering to). Bear in mind the headlights have to be on for it to function though!

Thanks, Steve, I will double-check that I had the headlights on. My backup lights do work, it's just the fog lights. 1989 Defender 90

Ok did a test to ensure the headlights were engaged. I do get the illuminated dash light for the fog lights, but the actual lights do not illuminate. Going to remove the lights and meter, see what I find. 1989 Defender 90

Dug into the wires at the left rear and I found an unplugged red yellow wire. I plugged a meter into it and sure enough with the lights on and the fog light switch engaged we get 12v. So i think I need to run a new wire as its actually in the wrong location?? It supposed to connect to the backup light correct?

I'm guessing that yours is a UK import, which would have the lights on the opposite side to what you need and would explain why the wiring is in the wrong place. Have the lights actually been swapped over?

The wiring for the fog and reverse lights runs across the top of the rear crossmember and it's not too difficult to unpick it and re-route it to where you need.

Edit: I've just seen your picture about the licence plate and notice that the reverse light is still in the UK position and assume that the fog is the same. If that's the case then it seems that somebody has already altered the wiring but not moved the lights, which is odd. Anyway, it looks like you have a relatively easy solution of just swapping the lights over to the correct sides for your part of the world. Darren

I wonder (if its had a LHD conversion) that they have run the harness down the LH side of the chassis instead of the right and forgot to extend the rear fog wiring? My 1986 90 is currently on a full rebuild, with new chassis, Paint etc.. Very much a hybrid, TD5 Chassis, tub & bulkhead with a 200TDI and LT77 GB Painted in Stornoway Grey Smile 2 years off the road, but getting close to completion now
