Homelink
Has anyone managed to pair their Defender with a garage door opener via Homelink?

I have a Garadoor with a Garamatic 10 opener. Garadoor tell me that the Defender is not compatible due to the rolling code system but the iGuide suggests otherwise. Try as I might though I cannot get the Defender to send a code/codes that the Garamatic will accept.

Interesting that no-one has tried setting up Homelink for garage doors or gates.

Way back in the 2000’s I specced an RRS with homelink and it wouldn’t work with my Stanley garage door opener with a Hormann remote control system so I never bothered speccing it after that and keep a remote piper unit for the door opener in the centre cubby box (not that I can get any LR product into my garage as they are either too high or too wide or both!) I can vouch that the Hofmann units can withstand being left the refrigerated cubby box too! Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

Thanks for that Tim. I’ve reverted to a remote in the car now. Garador do a nifty little remote that plugs into the 12v socket so that is the default now.

It seems the Defender doesn’t like rolling codes. Maybe it needs a software update.

Yes I use the home link on my defender. It worked fine with my garage door but not my gates. So I bought one of the universal receivers and now both work perfectly.

Link the receiver. https://www.homelink.com/fixkit

If you purchase a home link receiver you will get it to work. They are fixed code

You will need to buy a remote control too Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

The other option is to buy a Alexa triggered relay, update ur car and get Alexa to open the garage door from in the car Thumbs Up

The "rolling code won't work" story is nonsense.

I've had Homelink on a dozen cars and they all have worked with rolling code openers. Currently, my Defender and Porsche both control our Genie openers. They just have to be paired (plenty of YouTube videos for that).

If your opener doesn't work, switch it for a brand that does.

I'm happy for you that Homelink works in your cars. But you are in the US whereas in the UK/Europe compatibility seems to be more of an issue. Perhaps it is the fact that over here our systems operate at a different frequency from yours.

Horstmann/Garador supply huge numbers of doors here but their current range of operators are not compatible with the Homelink system in the Defender at least, probably many more LR models too. The solution is to use their universal receiver it seems, but my 'workaround' is to use Garador's button transmitter which plugs into the cigarette lighter socket in the dashboard.

Maybe a fix in future via an OTA update to the vehicle?

We've had Homelink in various of our previous cars and it's never worked properly with our Garador opener, I ended up putting an iSmartgate bridge to allow us to use our iPhones and Siri.

We don't use Alexa after my Amazon account was full of ads for things we had discussed in the lounge where, unbeknownst to us, Alexa was lurking and listening on our Naim speaker. 2014 110 2.2TDCi XS Station wagon

My Defender and previous RR with Homelink all worked with my Hormann garage door and the Defender still does - they were far easier to program than the RS6 I had and about the same as the BMW M4 Thumbs Up Gas, Grass Or Ass - Nobody Rides For Free

So the system was fitted in 2011 but is date stamped “Made in Germany” 2010.

It looks to be a TR50A033D Supramatic E2 if that helps?

The frequency for the transmitter is 433.92 MHz I think, or it could be 868.3 MHz as that is suggested on one of the hand held units.

Hope this helps Thumbs Up Gas, Grass Or Ass - Nobody Rides For Free
