Has anyone ever used the Lucas Transmission Fix in an R380
There’s nothing really wrong with my box it shifts fine it’s just aged and a little warn by now being 24 years old. My Landy Has done 148k. Planning on changing the gearbox oil to some brand new MTF94, but wondered if it would benefit from also adding some Lucas transmission fix additive inside too along with fresh oil.

I understand it’s mainly for automatic transmissions, but since the R380 was originally designed with ATF fluid in mind I assume it would work okay?

The Lucas description on the product does state “ Use also in light duty manual transmissions to increase shifting ease and transmission life.

To me that implies stuff like light trucks and pickups???

Just wondered if anyone else has used it

There was never a LandRover gearbox that was designed for ATF! Rover decided to use ATF to smoothen cold shifting. I hear stories that the bearing suppliers even warned and voided their bearing warranties as ATF is not the best lubricant. Having said that, owners of the LT77 are kind of stuck in using ATF, as any thicker oil will damage or shear the oil pump.

For an R380 I would stick with the MTF. You do not need to add anything else. Regular service interval with good quality oil is more important. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

In my experience it works very well in addressing certain issues with traditional torque converter auto transmissions. However I would not use it it for Manual box’s or mixing with MTF.
