Looks like a transmission temperature warning light or differential oil temp light. As you say the tilt cab warning light is the first one. Only ever seen these lights on heavy trucks.

The choice of symbols might be because of the Llama that was being developed at that time. As there was surplus symbols there was no need to change it when that project did not go ahead. 1995 Defender 110 CSW

Most likely that the warning light panel was pinched from the parts bin of Leyland trucks.

No, Ramsay's got it. They were added in anticipation of the introduction of the Llama but then just used up on standard vehicles when that project didn't proceed. Darren

I used that transmission high temperature warning lamp as a low-coolant indicator on my 300TDi. I got a Range Rover classic header tank cap with it's integral float switch and a delay on timer relay so the warning lamp illuminates when the header tank level is low after about 15 seconds. That's enough delay to not get nuisance flashing under braking, but not too long that it's useless in the event of a cooling system fault. Only refinement needed is to make it illuminate at key-on as a lamp check. |

^^^ that is a neat idea.
I think you can easily do a lamp check if you supply 12v from the ignition to the warning light and then use the header cap to ground the warning light in parallel with the low oil pressure switch (closed until you start the engine). But if you have low oil, you will have 2 warning lights. Park brake warning light has ignition supply and is grounded via the park brake switch.
The coolant low warning light is wired to be powered and have constant ground because of the way the timer delay relay works. For this reason a key-on lamp check would need a relay to buffer it to prevent "unintended consequences" but using zero oil-pressure to force a lamp check is a great idea! |

Are you sure that the handbrake switch is grounding the PARK BRAKE (top left) warning light and not the (P) warning light (the one between the seat belt and trailer warning light, lower 3rd from left)?
My 1988 90 does not have handbrake switch, but has the low fluid level switch on the master cylinder. But there is yet another (!) Depends on the model year - mine is a '98 and has a different warning light pack.

Thanks all for the replies - interesting information. I had forgotten about the Llama, initially wondered if it shared the same cluster as a Leyland truck.
