If the motorway has three lanes or more you are not permitted to tow in the outside lane. Speed limit is 60 mph. You're dead right - he's asking for a blue flashing light. Defender 90XS SW

Driver likely to be one of the TrueTossers who sit in the outside lane when there's nothing in the middle (or even inside) lane.
A bit slow for one of these types though, it's usually over 100mph |

I think you'll find that the key to this is that the driver is an unthinking antisocial moron, rather than that he (or less probably she) is driving a Defender.
There are no towing rules for morons. |

Not sure the traffic police would target this sort of behaviour, it’s easier and less hassle to catch a speeder

There's absolutely no doubt whatsoever if a traffic cop saw this they would prosecute. If they were in an unmarked car and were passed by this nutter they'd be straight on the blue's and two's.

l would love to understand why they do it, is it a kind on "l am here and l own the road" mentality or some sort of territorial thing l wonder.
Or it might just be because it's against the rules, like tossing your fast food wrappers out of the car windows. Last edited by lightning on 25th Jul 2022 9:18pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Anyone passing their test before 1997 didn’t have any training. Do we know this person was under 42?
It should have remained but grandadfather removed as well. |

And you automatically think that the people who had been towing for years hadn't learned anything in all of that time.....??
I have 'grandfather rights' but can guarantee I take things far more seriously than some of the feckwits I have seen, and just like most modern driving then general standards are far worse than they have ever been mainly because they are too busy relying on the new fangled ![]() Last edited by 90 Dreamer on 24th Jul 2022 7:56pm. I’ve also noticed more of this since the de-restriction on B+E requirement
![]() In my boring world stuck in the normal lane at 51mph my opinion is “let the lads crack on” when the elephants are racing I’d be probably doing the same with the the full fat and the Ifor. That maybe the case. But my mother would have been able to drive with a trailer on and hasn’t driven a car since 1996.
Passing my test in 1998, there was no Netflix’s, traction control and I didn’t have a mobile phone |

I don’t actually think the change of rules with B+E have had an impact on the driving standard so soon.
It’s been abysmal for a good while before the rules change. I passed by test in 1989, so have never had formal training for trailer use. For the last twenty years I have used various trailers for my work tasks. One interesting thing I regularly see on the M40, in either direction. Usually high spec/performance vehicles, cleaned up nicely, private plates, Asian drivers. Lines of the cars flying up the motorway faster than the limit, in whatever lane is clear, ducking and weaving. Will stay over in the loser lane going steady! |

I am still bitter my age meant I had to take tests people a few months older didn’t have to take.
I don’t feel the removal has reduced the driving standard. There will always be good and bad drivers. Having done the tests driving at 51 on a motorway I suspect would result in a fail or minor point. I failed my first for going too slow. |
