EU To Make Speed Limiters And Data Recorders Mandatory By 20
As the U.K. is not part of the EU any more this will probably not affect UK drivers only cars manufactured in the UK for sale in the EU.

Which ever government will follow suit.

Car manufactures in the Uk selling to the EU won’t want two separate systems. And let’s face it, with the current Brexit BS still going on I suspect the powers that be won’t let a same spec UK car into the EU without it.

But then give it another 12 months and I predict that the horse and trap will be the vehicle of choice for many…..

Vehicle regs come from the EC not the EU, and as far as I know we haven't left that.

Basically they want to shut the vehicle down remotely to suit, insurer, manufacturer if not owned
Track movements remotely and more.

Yet more of the typical, do as your told, do it now dictatorship autocracy one size fits all boring mentality.

I think recently everyone wants a prize for the most bizarre or stupid idea.
It seems since and during the Pandemic that a lot of stupidity has occurred. Laughing

Personally there isn’t hardly any vehicles on the market any more that I have much interest in so I’m happy with what I have and always have been. Very Happy No Guts, No Glory.

I'm sure it won't be long before someone like BAS can hack into it and diable that part of the software. Or just pull out the 4G SIM card!

The speed limiter aspect is old news anyway, I believe that all new designs of vehicle from this year are required to have "Intelligent Speed Assistance" or ISA. There are manufacturer options, at present these range from preventing exceed speed to providing haptic feedback (e.g., making the pedal harder to press).

It has also been stated that this is likely to become mandatory in existing designs in a few years.

It's also worth noting that the G7 leaders in the last few weeks agreed that the sale of new IC-powered vehicles (including hybrids) would be banned completely from 2033 in Europe, which will kill the global IC industry. This is in effect the death knell for the internal combustion engine, since the global market minus Europe is considered uneconomical. More disturbingly the same G7 leaders discussed but (fortunately) did not agree to an absolute ban on all sales of IC vehicles from 2033, which would have made it illegal to sell a second-hand vehicle. This is likely to have a catastrophic effect since effectively any existing vehicle would be worthless.

It is to be hoped that when this subject next comes up, which inevitably it will, due consideration is given to classic and historic vehicles, however the long-term availability of fuel is likely to be problematic. The impact on the petrochemical industry will be interesting.

Let there be no doubt that the era of the internal combustion engine, which started with Belgian inventor Étienne Lenoir in 1863, is rapidly drawing to an end. The end will be more painful than the beginning, and the changes the IC engine brought about cannot be overestimated - cheap mass transportation which we now take for granted.

“It is to be hoped that … due consideration is given to classic and historic vehicles”

I’m afraid not, Low Emission Zones for example. Which politician is going to argue for exemptions and risk “I had to sell my car/have to walk to work, but you want special privileges for millionaire owners of Bugattis and Bentley Blowers!”

Defenders stand no chance…

It’s not all doom and gloom for IC engines with the rise in synthetic fuel technology..

The e-fuels will hopefully be our saviour to enjoy these dinosaur cars. 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS.

We will still have ice cars / trucks being made after 2030, i doubt we will see an end to them in the next 100 years.

Synthetic fuels will be rolled out because there’s not going to be a realistic battery break though and charging infrastructure that works, oh and they love VED too much. Also batteries won’t work for heavy use cases (agri / freight)

I’m still surprised anyone believes the politicians on this.

I’m also still surprised that nobody has really called them on net0 being the greater lie of our age, it’s not that it’s not achievable, it’s just not possible when humans exist.
