Not a Defender but a chum stuck a massive one behind his front bumper and it worked a treat.
I think he got it from one of the big audio places on eBay. I don’t think it was much cheaper than the one you mentioned through, good ones tend to be expensive. Last edited by kenzle8a on 9th Jul 2022 7:02pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Hi James
I use the naka aerial, purchased from Brendan and have absolutely no complaints. In fact it was that good I brought a second works all over the country, including deepest Cornwall, unlike the RR that cuts out or is forever searching for a signal |

I’ve had no problems with the Nakatanenga when down in your neck of the woods, or anywhere else for that matter. WARNING. This post may contain sarcasm. |

Remember some electrical items can degrade the DAB signal whatever the DAB aerial is.
I have the Nak one as well, when first fitted it worked well. Since I’ve fitted various other electrical items and it’s not had as good signal. So that’s just one of the reasons just today I’ve decided to add Ferrite clips to various items cables and possibly some aluminium foil shielding in places as well. Some things like USB chargers etc are common culprits for causing excessive EMI fields and various other things and can degrade DAB signal significantly. It’s not a job I’ve fully completed yet, but Ferrite clips and foil shielding should help I’ll have to wait and see to see if it all helps. I tried several conventional DAB aerials without any satisfaction, then I bought the Nak one and it is outstanding.

Thank you everyone. Nags one may well be worth a look at again then. From the threads on here it appeared not great.
EMI is something that I should also look at, thank you for suggestion. There is a wireless charger stuck on the dash! Time to check. Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

Yes, things like that and USB chargers are typical culprits of EMI emissions.
Regards the aluminium foil, I was got in to give the layered foil stuff a go like a foil emergency blanket and cut that up and use that strategically on various boxes and ferrite clips on other things. LED items also cause interference. The trouble is if you use pure aluminium foil like kitchen foil is not only will it tare, but it’s a conductor whilst bare but imo best avoided as if it gets in contact with other metals it’ll cause problems. With an emergency foil blanket it’s multi layered it has thin foil in it but layered with P.E.T. Plastic or similar material. So that’ll stop any dissimilar metals issues, protect from moisture better, be more resistant to damage and won’t take. If you need to use it strategically then aluminium tape will work as well. Only thing to be careful of is not to block or cover anything that needs ventilation or a signal to it like a Bluetooth unit maybe and things like that. Aluminium will help block EMI, ferrite rings absorb. I’ve wanted to do it for a while, but needed the dash out and as I’ve had to basically do that to replace the wiper wheel boxes I thought I’d combine the jobs and have down with it. I had good DAB signal on some stations, but it seemed like it was limited more than it should be. I know it’s EMI that is doing it as reception declined after I added various other items. LED light bars can be some of the worst, with mine I had a speaker whine if they were on not much but you could hear it so I’ve but ferrite clips on those so I’ll be interested to know if it makes any difference. I’m not going to know for a while yet but that’s my plan. But the anal DAB aerial does work well, and Blackwolf mentioned I don’t think much else out there is much good. If you amplify the original aerial that’s fine but you’ve got to keep putting it up if you need it and prone to being broken either accidentally or deliberately. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |
