Screeching coming from engine bay
Wondering if someone can point me in the direction to begin looking, I’ve just done quite a bit of work to my engine bay, installed new allisport intercooler, silicone hoses, put in an egr blanking plate ready for a remap next week, removed all the injectors cleaned them and refitted with new seals and changed fuel filter and filled with forte diesel cleaner, maf and map also cleaned. Since putting everything back together and taking it out for a drive this evening there seems to be a really loud screeching when the revs are in about 1500 and when changing gears, it wasn’t doing that before I started doing everything to it so it’s obviously something I’ve done but does anyone know where I should start looking? Hoses too tight? Egr blank not properly in?

Unfortunately it could be anything - could you take a video and post it? Any incline of what area it’s coming from? 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS.

Check for soot around the exhaust manifold / turbo area. Other than that, check hoses to intercooler are all seated properly.

It’s really hard to tell, more from the back end of the engine towards the cab it sounds like. Would a dodgy injector seal make a screeching sound?

No I don’t think so. Loose injectors cause a knock.

A screech is usually a split pipe to or from the intercooler, a loose exhaust manifold, or a leak between the manifold flange and the turbo.

Did you change the inlet manifold elbow to silicon? These are a pig to even see, let alone fit so you might not have it seated right. Are you getting an engine management light on the dash?

You wrote that you put in a EGR blanking plate... That could be the reason for that noise, too. Check if the gaskets are sitting 100% correct and if everything is fine in that area.

Does it happen under load? if you used the BAS intercooler hose's they can wear on the pulley and on the steering arm if not fully seated..... i found out the hard way! 2016 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

Serpentine belt tensioner pulley bearings? Mine did this - screech at 2300 rpm - really annoying. Lubed the pulley wheel bearings and eventually it went away but it didn’t work straight away. Took care not to get the lube on the belt or it’s contact area on the pulleys.

If you have dislodged something while doing the injectors and it has found its way to the turbo and damaged the vanes this will make a noise under boost usually worse when cold.
Or oil injection nozzle to turbo bearings clogged will also cause noise.
I have replaced 2 turbos at around 100K KM because of this issue.

Thanks for all the replies it turns out that the egr blank just wasn’t completely seated right and that’s what was making it screech, it’s nice and quiet now Very Happy
