The defender phev 23.5my achieves 110mpg. Hardly poor fuel economy.

The review I have just read was that the writer said that on EV the range was 27 miles but they only managed 15 miles Then your using a small engine to lug around a heavy battery, and as per my earlier post and experience (Velar) the 300bhp engine is rubbish in terms of performance and fuel economy. Has anyone of you fine folk tried a PHEV and the decided to stick with the diesel model. Would be interested to hear your thoughts. Thanks in advance. |

I’ve yet to try one, it would work for my running to and from work but it’s my road trips that would kill it. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

Sounds too low to me.
Whilst the Defender is heavier on watts (then the BMW X5) I can't see it managing a lowly 1mile a kW. Haven't tried the P400e but I have a X545E which has a detuned 3.0l straight 6 and a useable 22.4kw battery. That provides 53mile + electric range and is pretty rapid when it needs to be. This weekend, at 1515miles in I treated the BMW to £50 of petrol. I have just over half a tank which is far better than the quarter it had when I collected it. Electric wise - its used 716.8 kw. Elec average is about 2.18miles / kW |

Something not right there, my commute to work is 2.9 miles and I can easily go four days between charging. It really depends on your usage and if you are willing to put the effort in to maximising keeping it charged. Performance is rapid when needed.
Total convert to hybrid, so much so that I have a range rover sport p440e on order, probably at least a year away but in no hurry I'll enjoy my defender meantime. |

Harry, from Harry’s Garage fame, runs a Range Rover P400e and he claims he’s getting 85mpg from the same engine & battery configuration. He charges his regularly and its used for a mixture of short and long journeys.
I’m currently running a P300 SE Defender but awaiting delivery of a P400e model. The performance of the P300 is more than sufficient for the type of vehicle but I’m just wanting to reduce my fuel costs and do my bit to save the planet. Downloading my journey history shows that 75% of my trips are less than 20 miles so I should be battery only for a substantial amount of those trips. |
