Me me me, I have a CAD system, even one better I have a 3d printer. Hopefully the 3d printer is on the way back from Wales tomorrow (long story but basically you can blame my sister's hockey ball for it).
Unfortunately I don't have the time at the moment (just started stripping the front of the 110 to rebuild the dumb irons). Maybe in a week or four... Oh and I've thought about doing this unfortunately for a 300Tdi :p Ed 82 Hotspur Sandringham 6x6 95 Defender 110 300Tdi |

You can still get them, they are just trying to punt the double din units cos they is cheaper to build... which more than can be said for the dash conversion for the Defender How Much?? .... Err I only want the double din dash adaptor, I have already brought the car! RRC 2.4 TD... it's either a stretched 90 or shrunken 110!!

I paid £1040 ex VAT for my double din conversion. That included a top of the range Pioneer head unit, DAB aerial, facia plate and all work which I thought was very reasonable.

..... I've just picked myself up off the floor...... That's Range Rover Price territory, and I'm talking factory not aftermarket..
On fullfatrr.com there was a massive debate on what to replace the factory unit(s)(there are 6 in most setups) with, about 95% went for the cheap as chip Ping Pong specials running on the logic that if they went wrong after a few years, you could replace it with like for like quite a few times before you got into Alpine / Pioneer price territory... in fact it's around 3.5 to 1, so assuming that you get 2 years out of one.. how long are you going to keep the car for? 7 years + then quality is probably worth the investment, but if the answer is only a few years then it's not... And to be honest I have an Alpine 2Din head unit in my Mercedes, and I'm not totally convinced that it's worth all the extra expense.. for a kick off almost everything is an option and has to be added on... the Chinese units come almost fully loaded.. The biggest single headache is the conversion, but once it's up and running it's all good!! In fact I've stuffed one (Ping Pong special) in the RRC!! Been trying to decide if I should go double din or single fold out.
Double din more options, but an irreversible modification. Screen position not ideal as mentioned above. Single din, limited choice of units, hazard switch difficult to press when deployed. Neat solution and reversible. Slightly more security concious. Cheaper than double din conversion. Screen position slightly better than double din. I purchased a clarion fold out used from this site, for about £100 I am trying it out. So far so good, I think I'm swaying toward fold out! Would it not be possible to relocate the switches to the side position but use a single din unit? surely that would be the best option
I have made some interesting discoveries googling DA2609 RRC 2.4 TD... it's either a stretched 90 or shrunken 110!! ML 270CDI |

I have the Kenwood 526DVD (now discontinued) but the principle is a good one...
(all considered with the standard arrangements for a Puma Dash)... Click image to enlarge Single Din Unit Click image to enlarge Screen (on top of unit) deploys outwards and then lifts up from the rear... Click image to enlarge All usual features... Click image to enlarge Unit allows fine adjustment of the 'parking position' of the Display... In / Out and Angle Semi obscured buttons can be pressed (although not ideal)...but one button press to send Display 'home' within Dash, maintaining any current function Click image to enlarge limited choice of vehicles for the Sat Nav...but 'Jeep' like option is OK SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |

Any details about this computer? I'm thinking of putting a computer somewhere for satnav and maybe some other stuff. it'd be nice to see some that are already done. Maybe a Raspberry Pi running open street map maps. Andrew |

Would using a tablet not be easier ? I use a tablet in mine, not integrated but on a Ram mount. Does satnav, other mapping, spotify etc. It's an easy off the shelf solution.

I had thought of using a tablet, but quite like the flexibility that a computer would give me. Satnav would have to be a GPS module plus probably open streetmap, which means updates to maps are easy. You also have the possibility of adding CAN to it, and a reversing camera display. It does require programming though.

I purchased a double din dash from eBay for Ā£75. Then an ATOTO F7 SE double din car play stereo from Amazon.
Took a bit of fettling but fit into the Landy really nicely. Great screen. CarPlay and android auto works a treat. 2009 Defender 90 CSW 2.4 TDCI. Ex Army Mechanic still living the dream. |

You may find that this would fall foul of the Con and Use regs, specifically: 109.ā(1) No person shall drive, or cause or permit to be driven, a motor vehicle on a road, if the driver is in such a position as to be able to see, whether directly or by reflection, a television receiving apparatus or other cinematographic apparatus used to display anything other than informationā (a) about the state of the vehicle or its equipment; (b) about the location of the vehicle and the road on which it is located; (c) to assist the driver to see the road adjacent to the vehicle; or (d) to assist the driver to reach his destination. (2) In this regulation ātelevision receiving apparatusā means any cathode ray tube carried on a vehicle and on which there can be displayed an image derived from a television broadcast, a recording or a camera or computer. |
