..Dot4, class 4 vs class 6..
...as i can see in a brochure that came with truck, proper brake fluid should be Dot4, class 6, however, its easier to find holy grail, than class 6 rated brake fluid here, so, question is, can i go with DOT4, class 4?? Am i going to damage anything?

Yes, Dot 4 will be fine. The only one you need to be cautious of is Dot5 as it is silicone based and shouldn’t be mixed with anything, and should only be used in certain vehicles and running conditions I.e. hard track use Ride like you stole it!!
If I’m not on a bike it’s because only a 4x4 will do…

Seems like class 6 is an improvement over class 4, and the former might be slightly better in ABS/ traction control units. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Class 6 has a slightly higher boiling point than class 4. Class 4 and class 6 are compatible and therefore there is no problem mixing them. Defender 90XS SW

Dot5 is NOT a performance fluid and certainly won't cope with sustained track use as its upper temp ability is only circa 250degC - pukka race fluid is generally capable of somewhere between 300 & 330degC and even dot5.1 is more like 270degC

The only reason for its existence is its long service life for the likes of Military use and the fact it is non-corrosive BUT as its not hydroscopic it can / does cause corrosion and other potential issues when compared to more traditional glycol based fluids - personally avoid like the plague!!

Thank you for confirming this, I must admit I know to avoid it and certainly not to mix it, it’s a shame people that use it think they are improving on previous versions.

Thumbs Up Ride like you stole it!!

Trouble also is lots of people confuse dot5 and the regular glycol based dot5.1....

The 'hidden' issue with silicone fluids is that because they are not hydrscopic and condensation that builds up can potentially become vapour at higher brake system temps and at that point you loose the brakes completely as water vapour is totally compressible.....
