All of these switches are essentially very similar and with a bit of imagination can be made to do most switching functions. They are fortunately very easy to dismantle.
The latching and non-latching button assemblies can be swapped, and if you look closely you will see that the switches all start start life exactly the same and are made to do the required function by means of holes drilled to cut specific tracks on the bit that looks like a circuit board. The LEDs differ, one is for switch illumination and the other if fitted is a tell-tale. Standard configurations are latching and non-latching versions to switch power to an accessory or to switch ground to an accessory, with or without a tell-tale. If you're handy with a soldering iron and tiny drill bits and like a logic puzzle the possibilities are extensive, and about the only thing you really cannot do is turn one into a double pole switch. Not long ago I turned an HDC switch into an illuminated SPDT with tell tale. It is impossible to give any generic instructions since any mods depend on what you have to start with and what you want it to end up doing. |

No wonder I was struggling to understand how these switches work, I didn't realise the holes drilled in the circuit board were in different places and in turn creating different circuits depending on the switch type! Very clever by landrover to create one switch for multiple applications!

Also I don't really understand this difference, if the switch is in the circuit does switching power or switching ground just mean if it's before or after the accessory in the circuit? |

It makes a big difference due to the tell-tale led.
