Hello, new to forums so please excuse if I do not do this correctly.
I Recently acquired a 2008 defender 130, manual with the puma 2.4. Bought it with the cherrypicker cut off it. It had a kill switch for the engine in the back where the loom for the cherry picker had been cut. Spent the day removing any wire that wasn't stock and joined up the wires that were bypassed and when the work was complete it started right up. The Problem is the engine stays on until you turn off the lights and the low beams cant be turned off any other way than turning off the ignition. The lights also will turn on the ignition with no key. A wire had been cut going to that hazard warning lights and was taken down to the fuse box i just removed the non original work and put it back to stock top and bottom. There is also a white, 3 pin? connector under the seat that isn't connected to anything, it has big land rover sticker on it. Any help will be greatly appreciated, also if I can get a proper wiring diagram for the machine it would be a massive help. Thanks for your time, Shane |

Removed fuse 21 has a white green wire running to the hazard warning switch. It cured all the original problems. new problem is that the indicators don't work until light are on (less of a problem). Hope this helps someone or helps someone narrow down the root cause of the issue. All the best

Unfortunately, I think this is going to be really difficult to help with remotely. In general terms, it seems pretty clear that the original wiring has been altered and/or damaged in some way but the only way that you're going to identify how and where is to laboriously trace each one and check it against a wiring diagram.
My first instinct would be to check the wiring from the ignition switch but it's just a hunch and there are no guarantees. Unfortunately that was the case I was hoping a common problem, common fix scenario.
I found the issue and it has been FIXED. When I got the defender the light green wire from the hazard warning switch to the hazard/flasher relay was bypassed with another light green wire. I thought it wasn't stock and part of the cherry picker wiring so I put it back the way it was originally from the factory. Checking continuity at the relay revealed that there was a short from the light green wire to Earth, 80ohm and the multimeter was beeping sporadically. The wire bypass was a previous fix and not part of the cherry picker wiring. New Light Green wire from the relay to the hazard warning switch and blank the Factory one. As far as I can tell from multiple wiring diagrams the Light green wire is not connected to anything else. Hope this helps someone and happy defending |

Thanks RustInhaler!!!!!
Really, I didn't expect to find something so specific in the forum, but I had exactly the same issue 3 days ago and yesterday I was prepared to dig out in the electric wiring and diagrams, but I have now something from were start. Hope the problem will be the same as yours. Cheers from Chile Eduardo MY 2007 110 SW PUMA 2.4: Big Fog of 64' MY 1994 Jayco 1207 Folding camper: "El Tremendo" Click image to enlarge |
