I can only tell you what I had done to my 2011my 110 USW around 100k miles ago.
Since then it's done at least 40k miles on continental auto routes/autobahns at around 80mph - so rock steady steering is a good thing. I explained what I wanted my Land Rover to do to Gwyn Lewis who fitted Sumo Bars and an OME steering damper, OME shocks and et10 offset wheels on 235/85/16 BFG tyres with the steering lock stops set so that the tyres miss the radius arms by 10mm at their closest during articulation. This set up works well off road as well, the better turning circle and more positive steering feel helps a lot. My advice (for what it's worth) - set your Land Rover up for what you want it to do, you may need to fit more than a steering damper to achieve your goal Just because you're offended doesn't mean you're right. |

Good plan, what I was trying to say is that there are a combination of factors that together make an improvement.
Gwyn Lewis is a helpful, if rather "straight talking" chap, a phone call to him would be a good move. If you tell him what you want to achieve, rather than what you want, he will give you straight answers based on his very wide experience. Just because you're offended doesn't mean you're right. |

Gwyn’s parts are good, I’m really pleased with the greasable A frame ball joint I bought and the service I had last year.
Happy to answer by email as well. Regards, steering damper and other dampers for that matter i’d stick with Genuine / OEM. The others aren’t great, they can be prone to breaking, corrosion issues. Or general failure. The Genuine ones have a good life expectancy so long as the bushes are replaced before they get too bad. KEEP CALM AND Drill ON 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

just replaced a standard steering damper for an OME one, I already had the Gwyn Lewis sumo bars and disco steering arm.
my car is a road car with no steering issues I can confirm the Gwyn Lewis kit certainly tightened up the steering and removed the shake after hitting pot holes, I ran this with the standard damper for several years. The OME steering damper feels about 50% stiffer than the original (when compressed and extended off the car) and this can be detected by slightly slower RTC and further improved pot hole behaviour. I can recommend both mods ps looks good from the front too (IMO) DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS, I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

Worth remembering that your spacers adding a lot of scrub radius. I would go for something like the OME as you don't want to over dampen your steering. Also avoid RTC IMO. M

I use an original steering damper. It might even be from 2003 but for sure from before 2009.
It still works fine even with my 35"Simexes on the road. Click image to enlarge Roel 1984 90 2.5 na Diesel - RR V8 (1994-2001) 1997 Camel Trophy Discovery 300TDI (2001-2009) 2005 G4 Discovery III 4.4 V8 (2008-2018) It's gone but it still hurts. 2003 90 Td5 (2009-now) |

Second vote for the Old Man Emu steering damper. Miffy has had one on for nearly a decade now, still working superbly. The only thing I have had to do is replace the bushes and I gave the metal body a paint earlier this year.
I also have a set of GL's Sumo bars on (now older than I care to remember) and have recently replaced the ball joints. The Sumo's are worth it by the way if only because you can slot a good sized spanner on to them to get old ball joints off, if you forgot to protect the threads It is worth doing the ball joint grease nipple modification at the same time. Now have lovely steering. FYI Miffy has 30mm spacers and 285/75/16 BFGs on Boosts. |

I’ve got a bilstein damper and it works fine, but I have to lubricate the seals every 6 months or so to stop it squeaking. It’s not the end of the world like, but I wouldn’t get another one.
